  • PURPOSE OF JOB:

    Spearheading the Consumer Lending initiatives for the credit union and the consumer lending team, the Vice President, Consumer Lending will be responsible for planning and directing all aspects of consumer lending initiatives, objectives, lending policies and procedures. Responsible for the overall consumer loan functions and the consumer loan portfolio. Specific areas include, but are not limited to, risk- based pricing, production, vendor management, system administration, and process improvement.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Responsible for the underwriting and portfolio management of all consumer loan products originated by the credit union, including vehicle loans, unsecured loans, credit cards, share secured loans and HELOCs originated through both direct and indirect lending channels
    • Identifies, evaluates, recommends, and implements programs, products, systems or services that will increase business opportunities, increase efficiencies, or improve the member experience
    • Assigns workloads to staff, and maintains reports that indicate progress, applies judgment on special situations requiring exceptions, identify files needing additional efforts to meet credit unions asset quality, and implements lending policies
    • Performs initial evaluation of new vendors and annual reviews of existing vendors in collaboration with Vendor Management
    • Drives the credit union's consumer lending strategy through development of goals, expectations, service level commitments, and through management of annual departmental budget
    • Achieve production volume goals while ensuring sufficient levels of loan quality are met in accordance with the Credit Union's philosophy, policies, and criteria
    • Recommend credit tiers and risk-based pricing
    • Oversees FICO validation and other projects as directed
    • Ensures quarterly Pre-Approval campaigns are prepared timely
    • Monitors and analyzes portfolio performance for trends and develops action plans to manage emerging risks
    • Continuously evaluate consumer lending processes and workflows to improve efficiency and salability through improvement of systems, automation and reduction of reliance on manual processing.

    • Accountable for setting and monitoring financial targets to maximize revenue and profitability for the cooperative while upholding all risk management standards
    • Manages, coordinates, and monitors loan sales activities and programs to accomplish marketing objectives and achieve budgeted loan goals across product lines
    • Ensures consumer lending operations follow established procedure and policy guidelines.
    • Work with loan call center to ensure awareness of consumer loan products and effective sale/closing techniques
    • Assist Senior Vice President/Chief Lending Officer with the establishment and communication of consumer loan goals for loan call center and consumer lending team as well as monitors performance relative to established goals
    • Maintains and administers written policies and procedures for the consumer lending functions
    • Encourages the growth and professional development of the staff. Manages compliance with all applicable laws and regulations concerning consumer lending
    • Ensures that the staff is well trained in all consumer lending functions. Ensures cross-training for adequate coverage of all functions
    • Maintains a wide variety of contacts within and outside the credit union to facilitate resolving major problems, negotiating significant issues and agreements, and achieving other objectives
    • Monitors branch lending operations and identify needs of training, performance, accuracy, and meeting member service standards
    • Evaluates, assigns, and documents underwriting authority for all consumer lending loan officers
    • Monitors application approvals to actual funding ratios
    • Prepares monthly / quarterly reports as required by management and the board of directors
    • Monitors daily, weekly, and monthly reports to ensure service and production goals are achieved
    • Maintain familiarity with a wide variety of consumer lending products

    EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE and/or Other Skills:

    • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (e.g. business, finance, accounting, marketing, etc.) is preferred.
    • Fifteen (15) or more years' experience in a similar or related field, including a minimum of ten (10) years consumer lending management experience required for this position.
    • Requires substantial knowledge of HELOC and consumer lending, including all types of vehicle lending, personal lines of credit, credit cards, direct and indirect lending programs, credit scoring, credit prescreening, DMV, collateral protection insurance, risk management, portfolio analysis, and product marketing
    • Ability to monitor and analyze changes in the consumer lending marketplace and develop and implement appropriate short and long-term business solutions
    • Knowledge of credit union operations and the ability to integrate and communicate critical information.
    • Strong management, leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills to effectively develop, challenge, and motivate staff
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Organized, self-starter, innovative, and team oriented
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
    • Experience with Symitar and Lending 360 preferred.

    NOTE: The pay range is listed as $137K - $229K, but target base compensation will not exceed $150K base, not including incentives/bonuses.

    The pay range for this position is listed above. Our pay ranges are designed to allow for candidates with various levels of experience and skill to be considered, and to allow room for growth to be achieved in a role over time. Generally, new hire salary offers fall within the minimum to midpoint of a pay range for many candidates. Any offer extended to a candidate will be based upon their individual combination of experience, knowledge, skills, and education as well as internal equity.
