Lawler Construction is a commercial general contractor and construction management firm located in the Cleveland area. We seek an experienced and self-motivated individual to join our team in the roles of Construction Estimating and Business Development. The Estimator will be responsible for functions related to developing competitive bid estimates as well as Construction Management projects, budgets and negotiated work projects. Business development efforts will extend to expanding our network of contacts and range of work through proven sales and marketing techniques.
Candidate Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience estimating commercial construction projects (grocery experience a plus)
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (Construction Management/Civil Engineering/Construction Engineering Technology)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Experience with Vu360, Primavera Suretrak Scheduler or other similar applications.
- Positive outlook and energetic personality a plus. Forward-thinking and creative with high ethical standards, appropriate professional image, sound technical skills, good judgment, and a strong management focus
- Intelligent and articulate, able to relate to and work with people at all levels of an organization with strong verbal and written communication skills

Overview of Essential Functions
Responsibilities include managing and performing all aspects of estimating and bidding. Estimate types will range from preliminary and conceptual budgets to fully developed “hard bid” projects. Contract types will include both construction management and traditional general contract bidding. This position plays an integral role in the Pre-construction phase of projects and is the project lead prior to a project transitioning to an actively working project.
The estimator is responsible for developing estimating department standards and procedures. The estimator works closely with management. An important role is client development. Client development includes building effective relationships with suppliers, external clients, subcontractors, and internal team members.
Responsibilities:
- Overall responsibility for preparing and submitting proposals, budgets and estimates for projects.
- Receive and Review RFQ’s from clients and architects. Assess and respond to these in concert with management input.
- Gathering necessary documentation needed to prepare estimates.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, schedule/conduct additional site visits with subcontractors, as needed. Travel to jobsites to gather information on materials needed, labor requirements, and site utilization, etc.
- Actively participate and lead Client Development efforts in identifying and tracking client and project pursuits.
- Organize/update/submit prequalification data for projects being pursued as well as for new client development

- Scope of work
- Project approach and “vision”
- Proposed schedule
- Detailed Estimate with general conditions
- Suggested overhead and profit
- Clarifications and qualifications.
- Identify labor, material, and time requirements and compute costs by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents
- Provide clear, detailed quantity take-offs
- Document Management including
- Overall responsibility for estimating document management, including necessary distribution and archiving.
- Receipt & review of bid and other related construction documents.
- Vendor Bids
- Issuing formal invitations to bid to vendors.
- Confirming vendor bid status.
- Collecting & organizing vendor bids. * Manage the collection and distribution of RFI documentation
- Identify and communicate to management any problems or concerns relating to design, schedule, cost or other significant issues that may affect project outcome and risk
- Ensure the flow of bid and preconstruction information internally and externally is maintained and documented
- Qualify subcontractor quotations to ensure that they meet the requirements of the project and comply with the bidding documents.
- Participate in and support transition efforts from bidding to construction and support construction operations, as necessary, to ensure the best possible outcomes for each awarded project.
- Organize and/or perform bid delivery and attend bid openings
- Perform other duties as required to enhance Lawler Construction supporting the vision, mission, core values, and culture of the company.
