Typically reports to senior management. The Construction Management Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Construction Management Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.   • Overview

    The Director of Construction Management (Director) reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Operations at Touro University (Touro). The Director oversees construction projects and executes strategic plans to meet Touro’s project, financial and growth objectives, and fulfill client requirements. The role requires strong collaboration with the Office of Campus Planning and Design, Finance, Deans and Senior Leaders. The Director is responsible to develop and implement quality, performance, and safety standards and procedures for all Construction projects.

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Negotiate with external vendors and suppliers; Review and approve procurement of required material, equipment, subcontractors, and worker resources.
    • Provide project updates and communicates with clients, contractors, governmental or regulatory officials, and other stakeholders.
    • Build effective team capacity to plan and implement construction projects.
    • Ensure all permits, licenses, or certifications required by regulatory authorities are obtained.
    • Establish and enforce safety protocols and procedures to provide safe job sites and minimize risk.
    • Monitors costs and timelines and submits required progress reports to deliver projects on time and within budget.
    • Implement best practice construction methods to improve efficiency, productivity, and project outcomes.
    • Supervise staff and matrix manage project resources, including external vendors/partners.
    • Work closely with the Office of the General Counsel and the Procurement Department to develop construction and purchasing contracts.
    • Work on projects as directed by the Senior Vice President of Operations, CFO, and other Senior Leaders as determined.

    Qualifications

    Education/ Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Business, Finance, or related fields.
    • Minimum 15 years of experience, preferably in a construction management role in an academic, research, or health sciences environment. 
    • Experience negotiating and establishing competitive bids and pricing contracts; creating cost/benefit analyses; utilization of modeling techniques.
    • Experience managing multiple projects concurrently.
    • Supervisory and Project Management Skills required.

    Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities

    • Superior customer service and problem-solving skills are essential as is the ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
    • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
    • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) are essential.
    • Strong personal and professional integrity with the highest ethical standards is essential.Computer Skills:
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including MS Word, Excel and Web-based applications, and construction and architectural systems/software.
    • Certifications or demonstrated experience in Building Codes and Regulations, Capacity Planning, Construction Project Management, Construction Site Safety, Contract Compliance, Contractor Management, Materials Management, Reading Blueprints/Diagrams, Strategy Implementation.

    Physical Demands

    • Extensive Use of Computers
    • Extensive time sitting and standing.
    • Able to lift up to 25 lbs.

    Travel

    • Travel to other Touro University campuses outside of the New York region, as necessary.

    Maximum Salary

    USD $220,000.00/Yr.

    Minimum Salary

    USD $176,000.00/Yr.
