Construction Foreman directly supervises workers' day-to-day work on construction or installation projects. Coordinates subcontractor scheduling and the delivery and placement of on-site materials and equipment as required to execute each project phase. Principal Purpose Of Job: To provide technical and advance skill work at senior level. Supervision and coordination of highway/street maintenance activities with the City of Natchez.
Scope Of Responsibility: Under the administrative direction of the Director of Public Works. This work involves the responsibility for the safe and efficient operations of assigned light and heavy-duty equipment requiring a high level of skill in its operation. Supervision is exercised over any and all employees specifically assigned to an individual in this class. Incumbents are required to perform physical tasks as needed. Work of street and operational maintenance personnel with a view towards maximum utilization of personnel at a minimum cost. The Construction Foreman plans, supervises and performs activities subject to the general direction of the Director of Public Works. A class "B" commercial driver's license with air brake endorsement is a plus.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Planning and Coordinating daily maintenance activities on the construction crew.
2. Receives instructions from the Director as to the scope of projects.
3.Inspects equipment foe proper operating conditions and maintenance needs.
4.Provides technical and logistical solutions and/or advice to the Director of Public Works.
5. Assist in the development and training for staff safety programs.
6. Prepares recommendations for the replacement of equipment.
7. Recognizes potential problem areas and possible conflicts with all highway, street, and bridge construction including drainage systems.
8.Supervises operation of construction crew.
9. Makes work assignments and checks on progress/completion.
10.Instructs personnel in work methods.
11. Handles complaints from the public.
12. Establishes work priorities and sees that assignments are carried out accordingly.
13.Performs physical manual labor along with crew members.
14.Operates all related light and heavy-duty equipment.
15. Performs required field maintenance on equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or GED equivalent and experience in construction, maintenance, or other operations applicable to work assignments, including some supervisory or lead-worker experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
1. Considerable knowledge of the types of equipment and materials required to perform related work.
2. Considerable knowledge of modern principles and practices of public works administration.
3. Considerable knowledge of highway/street infrastructure maintenance.
4 .Ability to plan a supervise activities in a coordinated manner.
5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with subordinates.
6. Willingness to perform tasks for extended periods under varying climates conditions.
SALARY:Salary: 15.00 an hour (plus full benefits)
