Construction Foreman directly supervises workers' day-to-day work on construction or installation projects. Coordinates subcontractor scheduling and the delivery and placement of on-site materials and equipment as required to execute each project phase. Being a Construction Foreman monitors productivity and work quality to meet schedules and standards. Troubleshoots any issues involving workers, contractors, safety, quality, changes, or processes and expedites solutions. Additionally, Construction Foreman completes or tracks daily time and labor reports. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Construction Foreman supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Construction Foreman typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     Position Summary:  

    We are seeking skilled Foremen to be a part of Story Construction’s leadership team! As a foreman, you will play a crucial role in overseeing a crew of field staff to ensure work is being completed on time, with quality, and safely by monitoring the “Six Elements” (information, environment, manpower, materials, tools, and equipment). Foremen are also responsible for creating an environment that promotes the growth and retention of their crew members through mentorship and training. The Foreman typically reports to the site Superintendent. 


    FLSA Designation: Full-time, Non-Exempt 


    Summary of Duties:  

    • Ensures and promotes a safe work environment by identifying, eliminating, and managing safety hazards on the job site.  
    • Populate the two-week lookahead and communicate assignment progress to the crew and superintendent, ensuring deadlines are met. 
    • Holds daily crew meetings to delegate individual responsibilities and ensure safe, high-quality, cost-effective production. 
    • Promotes a positive, supportive, and can-do environment that supports continuous learning and improvement for their crew.  
    • Manage and allocate resources efficiently, including materials, equipment, and manpower in coordination with the superintendent. 
    • Identify and address challenges or obstacles that may arise during construction. 
    • Ensure crews are executing work in accordance with plans, specifications, and quality standards. 
    • Train and mentor crew members in support of their personal career development.  
    • Perform building and construction work including concrete walls, slabs, and foundations; structural steel and steel erection; interior and exterior process pipe installation; and general carpentry and finishes.  
    • Actively participate in work planning and the continuous improvement process  
    • Operate and inspect equipment. 
    • Performs other duties as assigned. 


    Working Hours: Generally, expect to work 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, from 7:00AM – 4:00PM. Occasional overtime may be required. 


    Qualifications:  

    • High school diploma or GED required; additional education or certifications are a plus.  
    • 5 years of construction experience; including experience with concrete, carpentry, steel and steel erection, and other relevant construction experience. The ideal candidate will have experience with each of these specialties.  
    • Proven ability to lead others, supervisory experience desired. 
    • Must be able to get to and from jobsites.  
    • Successful passing of a drug test and physical examination as a contingency for employment. 
    • Minimum tool requirement: 16oz or larger hammer, crescent adjustable wrench, screwdriver (6-1 type), tape measure, speed square, retractable utility knife, chalk box, lineman or rebar pliers. 

     

    Travel: Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected; Foremen are assigned to job sites located throughout central Iowa and across the state.

    Working Conditions:  

    Employees may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, loud noises, and more within OSHA standards. Job duties are often performed in close physical proximity to other people. Employees often work in outdoor conditions that include inclement weather such as heat, humidity, cold, wind, and dust. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, stand for long periods of time, walk for moderate-to-long distances on varying surface conditions, climb, crawl, crouch, reach, grip, push, and pull without issue. Must possess adequate communicative, auditory, and visual capabilities to avoid safety hazards.
