Additionally, Construction Foreman completes or tracks daily time and labor reports. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Construction Foreman supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Construction Foreman typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     The Dry Utilities Foreman is responsible for providing field production supervision over crews involved in the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground distribution and service lines, meters, metering equipment, and related equipment. Maintaining a positive attitude always, including in adverse situations and be a positive influence within and outside the Company. The Foreman serves as the front-line Safety Officer for the site/project and is directly responsible for the Safety of his/her crew. Newly hired foreman will be required to work on an existing crew for a period of 1-6 months depending on experience before being assigned their own crew. This job has been classified by PUC as being Safety Sensitive and containing Safety Sensitive Functions.

     

    Performance and Service Standards

     

    New Project

    Assists the Superintendent in the preparation of a project including but not limited to documentation, requirements, project layout and developing a project schedule.

    Assists the Superintendent in the confirmation of all located and marked utility lines. (Ref. 1.3.2 ss)

    Coordination of Resources

    Coordinates openly with Project Manager and Logistics for initial equipment deliveries and pick-ups. (Ref. 2.2.1.2 ss)

    Coordinates openly with Project Coordinator for emergency equipment delivers and pick-ups. (Ref. 2.3.1.1 ss)

    Collects and organizes all equipment and material pick-ups for Logistics after confirmation from Project Coordinator. (Ref. 2.5.2 ss)

    Holds briefings for field crew with task and expectations for that given day.

    Creates job duties within the field and delegates within crew to ensure upmost efficiency and quality of work.

    Carries out inspection of equipment and tools daily and reports findings to Logistics immediately, if repairs or maintenance is needed.

    Responsible for the overall condition and return of equipment, small tools, materials after job completion. (Ref. 4.5.3.1 ss)

    Project Cost Management

    Engages with client’s representative on the field frequently, quantifies scope of work and informs Superintendent and Project Manager of any requested changes. (Ref. 3.4.2 ss)

    Seeks approval from Superintendent and/or Project Manager for materials, equipment and tools needed immediately on the field before ordering through Project Coordinator.

    Field OperationsProgress & Status

    Monitors daily construction procedures to ensure that proper quality is maintained, and work is adhering to schedule.

    Supplies Project Manager progress prints/as-builts daily through Field View. (Ref. 4.3.1.1 & 4.3.1.2 ss)

    Supplies Project Manager progress pictures weekly through Field View. (Ref. 4.3.2.1 ss)

    Supplies Project Manager or Superintendent with project updates and daily accomplishments either on the field or in the office. (Ref. 4.4.1.1 ss)

    Site Visit

    Walks the site with Project Manager or Superintendent for project updates and further coordination to achieve goals.

    Creates and maintains positive working relationships with vendors to ensure timely procurement of supplies and materials.

    Coordinates and schedules final walk through with clients and Superintendent. (Ref. 4.5.1 ss)

    Safety

    Ensures cleanliness of work sites and inspects for proper storage of hazardous material before and after daily task.

    Ensures all materials, supplies tools and equipment are procured in a time efficient manner.

    Holds safety briefings and leads physical preparedness exercises for field crew prior to work

    Inspects daily excavation and adjacent area as well as protective systems inspection and submits findings to Superintendent. (Ref. 4.2.1 ss)

    Monitors crew during working periods to evaluate safety practices and immediately correcting those necessary.

    Ensures all equipment and tools daily are in good condition before and after any departure from work site and reports findings to Logistics immediately, if repairs or maintenance is needed. (Ref. 4.1.1 ss)

    Reporting

    Completes and submits daily trench logs, equipment logs and inspection sheet to Operations Assistant, Logistics Assistant and Superintendent. (Ref. 4.1.2 & 4.2.2 ss)

    Completes and submits T&M work done daily and sends directly to Project Manager. (Ref. 3.4.3.2 ss)

    Completes and submits timecards for themselves and crew by end of day through Field Time. (Ref. 3.1.1 ss)

    Completes and submits Job Safety Analysis (JSA) to Project Manager. (Ref. 7.4.3 ss)

    Completes project close out sheets while on final walk through and submits to Project Manager by end of day. (Ref. 4.5.2.1 ss)

    Qualifications


    Qualifications

     

    At least 5 years of experience working as a Superintendent in dry utilities electrical industry.

    High School Diploma is preferred however is not required.

    Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, production methods, and the coordination of manpower and resources.

    Experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics.

    Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in underground dry utilities and the electrical industry.

    Understand the practical applications of engineering science and technology including applying principles, techniques, procedures and equipment to the design and production of various projects.

    Familiarity with the NEC, SRP/APS/Century Link/Cox Specifications

    Knowledge and/or experience in operating excavators and/or other heavy machinery.

    Experience in effectively supervising other employees

    Must have valid driver’s license (subject to approval of insurance broker)

    Ability to communicate in a professional and tactful manner with others as a representation of the company.
