HEALTH TECHNICIAN (AUDIOLOGY/HEARING CONSERVATION PROGRAM)

    • You will document each patient encounter in the Electronic Health Record.
    • You will assess vital patient health history data and review health issues impacting hearing sensitivity or audiological test results.
    • You will identify patient workplace hearing health hazards, determine program enrollment status and conduct needed medical tests procedures.
    • You will determine the need for follow up tests and coordinate timely secondary care and follow-up services.
    • You will provide practical hands-on education and demonstrations of proper hearing protection insertions/fittings.

    • In accordance with BUMEDINST 1500.15C employees assigned to or subject to being assigned to duties providing direct patient care, either diagnostic or therapeutic must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    • Maintain current, valid certification as an Occupational Hearing Conservation Technician and successfully achieves annual technician provider competency assessments.
    • The incumbent may be required to work on any day or shift, including night, weekends, holidays, or on an “on call” basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.

    Qualifications

    Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-05) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

    • Performing otoscopic examinations, tympanometry tests and evaluations;
    • Counseling patients on test results, documenting results and referring for further evaluation if needed;
    • Assists with coordinating hearing conservation testing software updates and troubleshooting software/hardware problems;
    • Assesses patient's personal hearing protection devices and administers constructive training on accurate fit, wear and care.

    In accordance with Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center Technical Manual NMCPHC TM-6260.51.99-3 (July 2020) certification as an Occupation Hearing Conservation Technician or ability to successfully obtain certification within 6 months of hire through a Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center approved course is required. Successful re-certification is required every 5 years.

    In accordance with BUMEDINST 6230.15, susceptible or occupationally exposed health care employees who have direct contact with patients will receive appropriate immunization against communicable diseases unless a current immunization, a protective titer, or a medical exemption is documented. This policy applies to all health care settings, regardless of age or sex of the health care employee. Employees who have contact with or potential exposure to human blood or blood products (whether from patient care, laboratory, or other health care settings) are provided hepatitis B virus vaccine in accordance with the local blood borne pathogen exposure control plan.
