GIS and Conservation Data Manager

Job Title: GIS and Conservation Data Manager

Compensation: Based on experience ($26.00-$30.00/hour)

Hours: Part-time position (20 hours per week) includes some evening or weekend meetings

Location: Based in Essex, Massachusetts. Frequent travel and fieldwork within the Manchester and Essex area

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the GIS and Conservation Data Manager supports all

conservation-related activities of MECT, with a primary focus on the management and collection of data related to land protection and land stewardship projects

GIS, Mapping and Digital Communication

• Develop, manage, and maintain geographic data, maps, and geospatial applications, to

enable the organization to make informed conservation decisions

• Provide support for MECT land acquisition and protection, stewardship and public education committees by creating current, accurate, and functional maps
• Facilitate communication and data sharing between MECT and designated government

officials in the Towns of Manchester and Essex and in State government, as well as with

other stakeholders in the community

Land Records Management

• Manage digital and paper land records, maintaining accurate information of parcel location and boundaries, deeds and other relevant ownership data for MECT’s property interests.

Land Protection Research

• Conduct initial review of title of parcels for acquisition, including researching deeds and

other relevant parcel/ownership data, etc., of properties of conservation interest to the

organization

• Perform fieldwork to locate and document locations and property boundaries
• Conduct site visits related to due diligence for pending acquisitions
• Provide information to professional surveyors and other professionals (e.g., attorneys,
• realtors, etc.) contracted by MECT to expedite project completion
• Support grant applications with required mapping
• Support stewardship projects such as trail management and biological conservation by

conducting field work as necessary.

• Lead Conservation Restriction monitoring through fieldwork, mapping, baseline

Documentation coordination and record keeping.

Qualifications

Required

• Training and experience in ESRI ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap platforms
• Advanced cartography skills
• Experience in land navigation and data collection with GPS and phone apps
• Proficiency with common computer applications and database management
• Proficiency with MassMapper, MA state GIS online software
• Ability to represent MECT in a positive and professional manner, in writing, and in person
• Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion and to maintain the

confidentiality of private or proprietary information

Preferred

• Education in environmental studies, land use planning
• Knowledge/experience with title research and real estate transactions
• Knowledge/experience with land stewardship and/or public outreach
