Conservation Technician maintains the authenticity and overall appearance of art objects. Conducts analysis to determine appropriate method for cleaning and repairing objects. Being a Conservation Technician may require an associate's degree or its equivalent and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Additionally, Conservation Technician relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The Contact Ranger provides coverage at the park’s visitor center and park office. Collects appropriate fees and registers overnight camper guests to ensure all information is maintained and disseminated in an orderly manner. Operates the park’s gift shop and maintains the interior of the park’s visitor center and offices. Required to operate a computer, cash register, fax machine, laminator, handheld radio & multi-line phone system and use cleaning chemicals and equipment. The Contact Ranger provides accurate and detailed information on the reservation procedures, park fees, and amenities throughout the park. Provides clear and accurate customer service to all visitors. Takes program reservations and gives clear information on park interpretive programs and local area attractions. Performs clerical duties such as answering telephones, copying, and typing correspondence. This position requires the ability to reconcile a till and note any discrepancies in a detailed manner. Responsible to the Office Manager or his/her designee.
Minimum Qualifications: Must have workers permit, if applicable. Must have reliable transportation. Ability to meet/work well with the public. Must be able to reconcile a cash register and perform daily register transactions. Must be able to keep detailed records and account for revenue collected. Must be able to use cleaning materials and equipment. Must be willing to work shifts, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to provide excellent customer service.
Preferred Qualifications: General knowledge of office, computer operations, customer service, merchandising and point of sale systems preferred.
Special Requirements: Experience is not required but is preferred. Weekends and holiday work is required. We provide on the job training. Employees may be required to perform other park related duties during emergencies, or on a non-recurrent basis. Seasonal summer jobs can be an outstanding first step toward a lasting career with the park service.
There are no health benefits or paid vacation leave associated with the job. Employees are limited to working no more than 1500 hours in 12 months from May 1 to April 30. Position does not include benefits. Employment in all positions within the Virginia State Parks is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check. Employer participates in e-Verify.
