What You'll Do
- As a first level supervisor, will provide leadership, technical direction and oversight to chemists and technicians within the groups in Analytical Chemistry
- Assigns and schedules work, monitoring completion
- Provides direction based on goals, deliverables and sample backlogs
- Provides status updates to laboratory and project management
- Ensures proper requirements are completed and documented before task execution (procedure use, training, SQA, etc.)
- Conducts daily pre/post job briefs for backlog execution
- Shares in STR roles for lab equipment and instrumentation
- Ensures equipment certifications and calibrations are maintained
- Ensures proper handling and ordering of selected instrumentation, chemicals and consumables
- Will help troubleshoot, approve data, approve time, analyze samples
- Will manage and ensure regular and required activities are accomplished (temperature monitoring, SAA/waste areas monitored, etc)
- Will help execute/manage minor procedure revisions and manage procedure periodic reviews
- Will help manage overtime
- Will help manage equipment list for accountability and replacement
- Conducts personnel performance appraisals and recommends promotions & adjustments of immediate subordinates
- Helps in new hire training, mentoring and onboarding processes

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
- Thirteen or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting
- Experience with gas chromatography, gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, or mass spectrometry
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (High School diploma and 3 years nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
