Summary of Responsibilities:
Encompasses two different areas of responsibility and, generally, assigned responsibilities are rotated between associates every three weeks. The first area requires expertise in the operation of electronic data processing (EDP) equipment, knowledge of computer room procedures and understanding of systems input/output. The second area of responsibility requires knowledge of the policies or rules governing confidential data and check issuance for the Company and subsidiaries as well as expertise in using PC-based software applications. Responsible for the accurate and secure production and distribution of over 305,000 checks and over 4,500,000 EFT's annually. Operates under varying degrees of supervision (moving toward minimum) dependent upon his/her experience level. Is virtually independent concerning the management of his/her operation of EDP equipment and applications in accordance with a prescribed schedule. Works with some supervision and is responsible to make a minimal range of decisions, escalating to Manager when appropriate, and updating Manager on a regular basis.
Position Responsibilities:
EDP equipment operation:
Operates EDP equipment (mainframe console, PC and printers) for all confidential systems processing and check issuance processing. Trains other personnel on EDP equipment and operating techniques.
Utilizes ESP for execution and management of Treasury mainframe jobs; ensures all Treasury-related jobs execute successfully and as scheduled.
Follows the daily system production schedule and monitors job flow to ensure maximum utilization of facilities. Determines corrective action necessary for the various operating system kick outs.
Operates printers in output area to process production, test reports and checks. Processes check recoup requests on the CDS check writer. Ensures output meets quality standards. Controls the supply of check stock inventory.
Handles production of manual payroll checks through ADP Enterprise payroll system. Maintains a log of all manual checks produced.
Distribution and output controls:
Distributes all computer-produced checks and reports, including correspondence matching, for all life insurance divisions (including Integrity, National Integrity and Lafayette Life) and several non-life subsidiaries. Ensures that checks designated for pickup are released only to associates previously authorized to pick up checks. Maintains list of such associates.
Verifies and releases ACH (EFT) files at JPMorgan Chase and Fifth Third Bank using bank IVR and/or website.
Confirms successful positive pay issue file transmissions to PNC Bank, JPMorgan Chase and Fifth Third Bank.
Develops and maintains written procedures for major production functions.
Supports programmers in testing/development of new systems.
Participates in annual offsite disaster recovery exercises.
Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Selection Criteria:
Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively.
Proven ability to perform some physically demanding work, e.g., lifting boxes, constant standing.
Demonstrated knowledge of Company policies, procedures and goals.
Proven ability to work independently (self-starting).
Demonstrated arithmetic/math ability.
Proven ability to keep information confidential.
Demonstrated familiarity with Computer Center methods and procedures.
Proven experience with mainframe and PC applications.
Work Setting:
This position works in an office setting and remains in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings.
Position requires substantial movement of wrist, hands and fingers for continuous computer work.
Educational Requirements:
High school education or equivalent preferred.
Computer Skills and Knowledge of Hardware & Software Required:
Familiarity with PC windows-based software, e.g., Word and Excel.
Certifications & Licenses (i.e., Series 6 & 63, CPA, etc.):
None required.
Position Demands:
Extended hours required during peak workloads or special projects.
Work rotating day shift and elongated days if required.
