Computer Operator Role
This position monitors the progression of after-hours data processing to ensure smoothness of the process schedule to the end of the cycle. In case of production job failures, promptly notifies appropriate parties to correct the error quickly to limit down time.
Job Functions
Production- Controls and monitors batch processing to ensure a fluent progression to the end of processing. Monitors for errors and deadlocks in the workload
- Determines the sequence of the workload by studying the production scheduling software
- Works with other areas to resolve any issues with the nightly batch processes
- Monitors network connectivity to ensure smooth flow of data and applications into and out of the mainframe
- Promptly notifies the appropriate party of any network transmission failures
- Monitors for system issues and abends (abnormal end of task)and provides support where applicable
- Logs problems and issues so they can be addressed, if necessary, when the appropriate resources are available during regular work hours
- Notifies technical on-call support for second level support when necessary
- Associate’s degree in computer science
- 5 years of relevant experience
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job
- Skill in job control language (JCL)
- Skill working with Local Area Networking (LAN) hardware
- Skill in secured file transfer protocols (SFTP/MOVEit)
- Knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office products
- Knowledge of Z/OS mainframe operating system
- Skill working with Z/OS operating systems, including various subsystems
- Skill in problem assignment software
- Skill in Control-M scheduling software
- Skill in Microsoft Office desktop applications
- Skill in proofreading and editing documents
- Skill in listening and conveying awareness of a customer's problem or issue to find resolution
- Skill in utilizing time in an efficient and effective manner
- Skill in organizing material and information in a systematic way to optimize efficiency
- Responsible to appropriately protect the confidentiality, security, and integrity of SunStream and client systems and data
