Computer Operations Supervisor supervises computer operations, acting as a team resource for guidance and support on complex or unusual issues. Implements policies and procedures to perform routine tasks to maintain computer equipment and its peripherals. Being a Computer Operations Supervisor continuously monitors the efficacy of computer operations, backup processes, system monitors, and server availability to ensure operation goals are met. Analyzes and records error messages to diagnose issues and works with impacted groups to provide a timely solution. Additionally, Computer Operations Supervisor recommends potential equipment upgrades to improve the capabilities of computer operations. Ensures computer operations activities meet pre-established production targets and maintain operating budgets. May require an associate degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager. The Computer Operations Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Computer Operations Supervisor typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.   • Entry level supervisory position who leads department operations and maintenance activities of Cement Division personnel engaged in distributing cement and other materials within the State of Hawaii. Reports to the Division’s Operations Manager. Position includes personnel scheduling, performance management, safety and environmental oversight, administrative and budget control, and equipment preventative maintenance/repairs within the assigned department. Resolves unusual or non-scheduled service requests, equipment breakdowns and schedule changes. Performs quality assurance on inbound and outbound cement and other company materials. Responds effectively and courteously to customer service inquiries.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possess good judgment and in good health - must pass the job description physical capacity functions test.

  • High School Diploma a must.

  • Valid State of Hawaii driver’s license, Class 3 or higher to be able to operate an automobile or pick-up truck. Acceptable driving record.

  • Two years of operations/maintenance experience.

  • Minimum 2 years in a supervisory role.

  • Knowledge of basic computer skills to include MS Office programs.

  • Must submit and pass a drug screening and security background check. Obtain a TWIC security card.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree or Technical certification equivalent in manufacturing, construction and/or maintenance field.

  • Mechanical and/or electrical skills preferred.

  • 5 years related supervisory and maintenance, welding/fabricating knowledge.

  • Lean Six Sigma “Green Belt” Certification


  • Additional Information

    *Will be assigned to a specific department within the Division – one of the departments listed below with a *. Intent is become an “expert” in that department then cross train into other departments with the goal of becoming a Grade 18 Operations Superintendent.
  • *Supervise the operation and maintenance at the Kalaeloa Terminal. Includes overseeing cement/fly ash/slag ship discharge, unloading, transport, and storage of material shipments.

  • *Supervise cement bagging, back up bulk loading, fly ash and sand operations. Includes manaing sand ship discharging. Maintenance of CIP equipment.

  • *Supervise barge and neighbor island operations and maintenance.

  • Performs site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions. Ensures good housekeeping BMPs are followed.

  • Manages parts orders, vendor and contractor services.

  • Supervises assigned union workforce.

  • Expected to perform Department Grade 4 Terminal Operator tasks.

  • Primary trainer for Department Apprentice T.O.s and Laborers.

  • Enforce company rules, policies and regulations and maintains a clean and safe work area.

  • Troubleshoot and solve problems (material distribution, equipment operation/repair, etc.). Monitor and discuss distribution problems and maintenance schedules with co-workers and managers/supervisors.

  • Meet all scheduled jobs in a timely and efficient manner while working with employees, contractors and inspectors to ensure safety, quality and production optimization.

  • Communicate effectively and work with difficult people under high stress situations. Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations & act courteous/respectful of others.

  • Work collaboratively with superiors, peers and employees alike.

  • Coach, mentor and train employees.

  • Executes Kina Ole (Lean Six Sigma Projects).

  • Able to travel by air to Neighbor Islands for company business. Able to work a flexible schedule according to operational requirements.

  • Able to meet tight project deadlines while maintaining quality results.

  • Must be able to work effectively on odd shifts with minimal supervision. Must be available and willing to fill in extended hours on short notice as needed.

  • Always works safely and takes action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes and behaviors. Ensures company safety goals are achieved and be a role model of company safety and environmental policies, procedures and behaviors.

  • Must be available for temporary transfer to other departments to do qualified work. Must be able to assist with other tasks as required.

  • Promotes company’s Mission and Vision statements.


  • Key Skills & Competencies

  • In order for the supervisor to lead and manage his/her department, they must possess the below Knowledge, Skills and abilities:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Utilization of company computer, various software programs and other office equipment. Use of IT products to manage deadlines, communicate with others, and develop spreadsheets (e.g. EXCEL).

  • Must obtain the required Grade 4 Terminal Operator Department Skills.

  • Knows how to successfully Lock Out and Tag Out equipment using Company procedures.

  • Must obtain Hawaiian Cement Forklift Class V and VII certifications.

  • Must obtain Hawaiian Cement Manlift and Scissors Lift certifications.

  • Must become a competent person in assigned OSHA safety training requirements – expected to manage OSHA safety areas which includes training others, maintaining records, and performing inspections.

  • Knowledge of cutting and welding non-structural work a plus.

  • Lean Six Sigma “Green Belt” Certification

  • Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with customers, suppliers, inspectors, and co-workers.

  • Must understand and follow written and oral instructions. Must be able to read and comprehend equipment and operations manuals.

  • Able to work in varying environments, from air-conditioned office to dusty, noisy field conditions.

  • Be physically able to climb stairs and ladders or other physically demanding tasks necessary in performing field inspections up to 80ft high.

  • Must possess valid Hawaii State Driver’s License.

  • Able to work a flexible schedule, to include holidays and weekends, according to operational requirements.

  • Must be able to work in a non-smoking workplace.
