Computer Numeric Control Machine Programmer programs and sets up CNC milling, lathe, or other machinery according to blueprint specifications. Reads and interprets technical blueprints and design models and inputs the product design into the computer modeling software. Being a Computer Numeric Control Machine Programmer adjusts machine settings to the desired product specifications, and troubleshoots and maintains the machine. Utilizes G or M code and CAM software (MasterCAM,CAMWorks or others). Additionally, Computer Numeric Control Machine Programmer tests accuracy of settings and programs. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. WHAT THIS ROLE WILL DO
Performs any combination of tasks associated with the CNC Programmer of Towne Machine Tool Company. The CNC Programmer provides programming services to support the machine shop to make products that meet the specifications of our internal and external customers. In addition, the CNC Programmer creates, maintains, and revises new or existing machining programs and develops additional applications using appropriate programming methodologies, and resolves all issues related to the machining methodologies and/or specific customer specification/requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS ROLE
● Creates and improves CAM Post Processor capabilities
● Ensures appropriate tools and tool paths are consistent with standard machining practices.
● Has working knowledge of downloading and retrieval processes for specific programs to the machine tool.
● Creates comprehensive documentation for the machine shop, including detailed set up sheets specifying tools, tool paths, and programming methods, offers technical support using simulation software, and provides clear instructions on zero/reference points, tool offsets, tool compensation, conditional switches, manufacturing sketches/drawings, and calculation requirements encompassing basic math, geometry, and trigonometry for part programs.
● Plans machining process by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
● Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to international standards.
● Maintains specifications by observing cutting cycles; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and updating programs; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
● Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments, speed machining, improve quality, reduce tooling costs, and optimizes material utilization.
● Set-Up and run-off Multi Axis Machining Centers
● Use inspection tools to monitor dimensional accuracy
● Trouble shoot problems and edit programs as needed
● Receptive to constructive feedback from machinist, fellow programmers, management, and others.
● Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
● Ensure on- time customer satisfaction with products and service by producing programs resulting in defect free parts.
● Take a proactive approach to continuous improvement including productivity, quality & safety.
● Act as a "Project Leader" for the assigned jobs.
● Other duties as assigned.
