    What You'll Do

    • Position requires a general understanding of waste management practices as they relate to characterization and a comprehensive knowledge of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Chapter 335 of the Texas Administrative Code (TAC), and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations that apply to the compliant management of industrial and hazardous waste
    • Use of the principles of Formality of Operations and Conduct of Operations in an industrial setting
    • The ability to assess situations as they arise and make quick and effective decisions; implement management policies or operating practices; and carry out assignments related to the operation of the company’s business
    • Perform duties in support of the Pantex's Waste Management Program; this would encompass RCRA hazardous, Class 1 and Class 2 non-hazardous industrial solid waste, low-level radioactive waste, mixed waste, and classified weapon components
    • Prepares documentation to support waste management operations of waste and weapon components; this could include; complete process evaluations, create characterization documents and prepare shipping documents
    • Provides support to Process Engineering through review of programmatic weapon procedures for proper waste accumulation and processing
    • Provides support to Subcontractor Construction Management through completion of characterization documents including approval of Construction Waste Management Plans
    • Supports subcontractor personnel in proper waste management practices
    • Provides support of assessments/audits (both internal and external) of Pantex's Waste Management Program
    • Develop/revise procedures as needed to assure continuity of operations and provide process improvement

    Minimum Job Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience
    • OR Master's degree: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
    • OR PhD
    • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2)

    Preferred Job Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science discipline; minimum 4 to 7 years relevant experience
    • Comprehensive understanding of both the federal and state waste and transportation regulations including RCRA (40 CFR), DOT (49 CFR), FNCSRs, and the State of Texas waste regulations (TAC 335)
    • Knowledge of and experience in field/activities/operations being supervised to provide comprehensive direction to staff and work group
    • Ability to perform duties while exercising initiative, independent judgment, and discretion under general supervision; with work being reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives
    • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate through the oral and written word and presentations
    • Maintain a thorough knowledge of applicable Federal, state of Texas and DOE orders, rules, and regulations relating to waste management and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures through company-supported or funded training
    • Ability to recognize, identify, and resolve complex math and radiological issues, and work in multidisciplinary teams
    • Ability to interact across the enterprise
    • Highly effective people skills by being able to interact and be responsive to personnel issues and concerns
    • Understands a worker’s right to stop work when they feel their own or other’s personal safety is jeopardized
    • Knowledgeable of Pantex business and operations support, resources, practices, processes, and policies needed to solve problems and accomplish work
    • Technical knowledge of engineering, formalized operations, and/or production line activities
    • Ability to identify, research, and systematically resolve complex issues and problems
    • Basic Knowledge of DOE, NNSA, NPO, and CNS Pantex procedures and work instructions
    • Ability to manage personnel in performance of operations
    • Ability to present information clearly and effectively through the oral and written word

    The minimum education and experience for the lowest career level in the job posting range are listed under Minimum Job Requirements. Successful candidates hired into a higher career level than the minimum in the range must meet the requirements listed in the job leveling charts for the career level into which they are being hired.

    If a range of Career Levels is posted, i.e., Senior Associate to Senior Specialist, internal applicants already in one of the Career Levels would come across at their current Career Level. Internal applicants currently in a lower level Career Level would move to the lowest posted Career Level.

    Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

    Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
