    Description

    Ag Services, LLC is a safety consulting company providing risk reduction techniques to our customers and ownership.  We were formed in 1999 to help companies solve their safety and compliance concerns.  Our owners and customers are largely agriculturally based and face multi-agency regulatory pressures.  This ranges from assisting our customers with OSHA, DOT, PHMSA, DHS, EPA, and some FDA regulations.  Our niche is small to medium-sized companies that do not have the full-time staff to handle this in-house and we fill that void.  Ag Services, LLC is minority owned and managed by ProValue Cooperative, Inc. in Hutchinson, KS

    A Day in the Life:                               

    As a Safety & Compliance Director, you will be responsible for performing the safety and compliance functions to a set number of accounts as directed by management.  All customers’ needs are unique and the ability to be flexible while maintaining a high level of professionalism is key to success in this role.  A successful candidate would prove to be highly motivated and self-driven.  They should be able to shift focus and be attentive to customers’ needs.  Presentation skills are core to this position along with providing recommendations for improvement even in instances that will or may be met with some resistance.  Developing, evaluating, and implementing safety programs on an ongoing basis as well as keeping yourself up to date with regulatory changes is imperative.  The ability to work remotely within a teamwork environment is a recipe for success.

    You will report to various companies throughout the region and can expect to be at a contracted company every workday.  This position does and may require some overnight travel.  This generally does not exceed 8 nights a month in a hotel.  The safety director’s home residence plays a huge role in their daily and overnight travel.  This position reports directly to the General Manager of Ag Services, LLC who also serves as the Director of Safety & Compliance for ProValue Cooperative, Inc.

    This position is responsible for serving as a safety director for an assigned customer group as determined by management.  The individual applying must be a highly self-motivated person with effective reasoning ability and the ability to effectively multi-task.  This position is responsible for developing, implementing, training, and evaluating safety programs for the customer.  This will include safety policies and procedures, provide training, documenting company compliance activities, file required government mandated reports, inspect facilities for safety compliance deficiencies, and communicate pertinent information with front line employees, supervisors, department heads, general managers, and boards of directors.

    What You’ll Need to Do This Job:

    A high school diploma or equivalent; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.

    Willingness to continue education and the ability to obtain professional designation(s).

    The ability to communicate effectively with customer employees, managers, and senior management. This includes both verbal and written communication.

    Be persuasive when making recommendations and not get discouraged by pushback from the customer.

    The ability to communicate effectively within our organization and with regulatory agencies.

    Highly organized with work tasks, schedules, and account information.

    Ability to prioritize items in terms of urgency and importance.

    The ability to speak in front of groups comfortably and effectively.

    Possess the mechanical aptitude to understand and recommend improvements on each facility.

    Investigate accidents and recommend corrective action.

    Research regulations and be able to interpret them in an effective manner to communicate those same

    rules in layman terms to clients.

    Maintain a strong sense of urgency.

    Continually utilize laptops, tablets, and other technologies as they become available.

    Be physically capable of ascending and descending ladders, work at heights, underground areas, and around grain dusts.

    Communicate effectively within our organization with colleagues, management, and other departments.

    Maintain a sense of teamwork while working remotely.

    Maintain internal controls such as written reports and audits to ensure high quality safety services are delivered to our customers.

    All other duties as assigned by management.

    This position is regularly exposed to travel in a vehicle, office settings, and exposure to outdoor conditions. Long periods of sitting are required. Employees may need to regularly lift up to 25 pounds and frequently up to 50 pounds. The position may also be exposed to various agronomy chemicals including anhydrous ammonia as well as airborne dusts and grain dusts. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
