Compensation and Benefits Manager manages the design, implementation, administration, communication, and ongoing evaluation of the organization's compensation and benefits programs, policies, and procedures. Ensures that compensation and benefits programs support the organization's business objectives and meet all legal requirements. Being a Compensation and Benefits Manager develops and manages compensation and benefits budgets. Oversees compensation processes, including survey participation, job evaluation, salary structure development, base pay administration, incentive plan design and analysis. Additionally, Compensation and Benefits Manager manages benefits planning and programs including health and welfare, retirement, and work life. May select and manage outsourced providers. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Compensation and Benefits Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Compensation and Benefits Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Summary: The Benefits Manager provides ownership and administrative oversight for Company Benefits and Team Member programs in support of a busy retail/c-store environment. This role has a solid background in benefits including 401(k), health & welfare plans along with incentive programs and Team Member rewards, perks & benefits. This role is critical to aid in performance, engagement and Team Member satisfaction. Supervisory Responsibilities: Serves as a leader on the Human Resources Leadership Team. Does not directly manage others but is expected to provide leadership, guidance & support within the Human Resources team and to those served. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Assists in design of benefit programs to ensure competitiveness with trends, practices and costs. Participates in benefits surveys to analyze company’s competitive position. Keeps current with new trends and best practices in the field. Responsible for daily 401(k) Administration. With support from the VP of Human Resources, oversees the administration of all self-funded benefit plans including group medical, dental, vision, life, long-term and short-term disability, optional insurance plans, 401(k), etc. Serves as the key point of contact for benefit and 401k audits while partnering with the payroll team to ensure proper payroll deductions. Conducts regular benefit/billing audits, prepares and presents utilization/enrollment reports. Ensures legal compliance with HIPAA, ACA and other applicable benefit laws while completing 5500s, annual 1095 forms, etc. with help from third party vendors. Maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with ERISA, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, and COBRA. Participates in the annual review of current benefit plans, costs, communication strategies and processes resulting in recommendations for changes to benefit offerings. Coordinates and oversees Benefit Open Enrollment activities including preparation of announcements, system configuration & testing and benefit meetings. Understands all components of the Affordable Care Act, ensuring compliance with regulations and reporting requirements. Manages quality Guest service by functioning as the first point of contact within HR for Team Member Benefit questions & concerns; responds timely to questions and seeks resolution to concerns or problems. Collaborates with HR Operations, District Managers, Business Leaders, etc. to answer questions and resolve day-to-day Team Member issues. Manages all new hire, qualifying event and open enrollment benefit changes. Presents benefit information to individuals and groups of Team Members as needed. Assists in benefit reconciliations and administration processes. Provides information and support for auxiliary benefits such as the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Recruit & Reward Program (referral program), Support Fund Loan Program, Tuition Reimbursement, etc. With support from the VP of Human Resources, creates and manages a Company-wide Wellness program. Facilitates and tracks Team Member leaves per internal policies and in accordance with FMLA, ADA, etc. Ensures proper approvals, processes and leave administration are followed; coordinates Reasonable Accommodation requests. As appropriate, provides guidance to leaders regarding leave policies & administration. Ensures proper record management for all benefit, leave and compensation related actions; oversee maintenance of documentation for internal and external audits. Partners with the VP of Human Resources and Benefits broker to assess the effectiveness of benefit programs and define the annual benefit strategy. Establishes and fosters relationships with management and all team members that will enable the Human Resources function to be viewed as an integral part of the business. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Skills & Abilities: Good understanding of full hiring process and employee life cycle. Hands on experience with Workday Benefits and Core HR preferred. Prior experience in HR Operations and knowledge of best practices. Understanding of FMLA, ADA, COBRA and HIPAA laws. Analytical, comfortable working with large volumes of data and possesses meticulous attention to detail. Excellent research, analytical and creative problem-solving skills; strong business acumen and curiosity. Strong collaboration, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to relate well with all levels in the organization. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong listening skills with a guest-service and Team Member experience orientation. Excellent organizational and time management skills; successfully manages multiple assignments with a proven ability to assess competing priorities in a high energy, fast paced environment. Comfortable working independently; self-motivated and works collaboratively in a team environment. Acts with integrity and professionalism; always ensuring confidentiality and discretion is maintained when dealing with sensitive or confidential information. Comfortable working with a diverse group of people including Executives, Operations, Field Team Members, etc. Receives and accepts direction and instruction in a cooperative and collaborative manner. Expert proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite. Advanced proficiency working in a Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and 401(k) Recordkeeper platform. Good judgment; accepts personal accountability for areas of responsibility. Ability to react with appropriate levels of urgency to situations and events that require a quick response or turnaround. Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Human Resource Management; A minimum of four years related Human Resources experience; OR Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience. SHRM-CP or PHR certification desired; Benefits & Leave experience in a multi-state, multi-company organization desired. Experience in an organization with over 1,500 employees desired. Knowledge and experience using Workday highly preferred but not required. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
