Compensation and Benefits Manager manages the design, implementation, administration, communication, and ongoing evaluation of the organization's compensation and benefits programs, policies, and procedures. Ensures that compensation and benefits programs support the organization's business objectives and meet all legal requirements. Being a Compensation and Benefits Manager develops and manages compensation and benefits budgets. Oversees compensation processes, including survey participation, job evaluation, salary structure development, base pay administration, incentive plan design and analysis. Additionally, Compensation and Benefits Manager manages benefits planning and programs including health and welfare, retirement, and work life. May select and manage outsourced providers. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Compensation and Benefits Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Compensation and Benefits Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     What You’ll Do:

    The Benefits Manager is responsible for leading and developing a team of benefits analysts and is actively involved in the day-to-day administration of our employee benefits programs. This role oversees the design, implementation, communication, and administration of the company's employee benefits programs. This includes working closely with our benefits broker to ensure that our benefits offerings are competitive, cost-effective, and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

    • Lead and develop a team of benefits analysts to ensure that all benefits programs are designed, implemented, and administered effectively, efficiently, and accurately including enrollment, premium billing, claims resolution, benefits owing, and vendor management
    • Work closely with the benefits broker to negotiate and secure favorable terms and pricing for the company's benefits programs
    • Benchmark, evaluate, and make recommendations for changes to benefits programs and processes as needed
    • Stay current on laws and regulations affecting employee benefits, including the Affordable Care Act (ACA), COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA. Ensure all benefits plans are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
    • Troubleshoot to identify system problems with AS400 and Infinium on benefits and related data entry errors which affect eligibility reporting and self-billing reports
    • Develop and deliver employee training and education programs related to benefits
    • Lead the development and implementation of new benefits programs and initiatives
    • Provide leadership, mentorship, and coaching to direct reports to help them develop their skills and grow their careers
    • Collaborate in-person with all levels of the organization to harness collective intelligence of the workforce.
    • Attend all in-person meetings and trainings on recent developments, goals, and objectives and participate in such discussions by offering input and advice.
    • Regularly engage remotely and in-person with customers and potential customers to establish rapport, open communication and expectations.      
    • Build credibility and trust among managed employees by providing prompt and constructive feedback in office when observing such need.
    • Lead and facilitate regularly scheduled meetings and in-person trainings that harmonize collaboration internal to the department and external to other SBU’s
    • Determine best practices and reinforce constructive and positive feedback through face-to-face interactions with employees on the floor in real time.

    What We’re Looking For:

    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
    • Strong knowledge of laws and regulations affecting employee benefits, including the ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA

    Experience

    • 3 years of hands-on experience benefits administration
    • 2 years employee benefits management
    • Experience in the transportation industry a plus

    Skills/Certifications

    • Excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to negotiate and build relationships with benefits brokers and vendors
    • Strong project management and organizational skills
    • Ability to analyze and interpret data, as well as prepare reports and presentations
