Compensation Supervisor supervises a team working on compensation plans and programs and related analysis. Oversees common compensation projects, including survey participation, job evaluation, salary structure development, incentive plan design, pay program administration and other associated initiatives. Being a Compensation Supervisor ensures that compensation plans and programs are consistent with organizational policies and all applicable federal and state laws. Maintains salary structures and company compensation policies. Additionally, Compensation Supervisor is responsible for survey participation and compensation analysis. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification. Typically reports to a manager. The Compensation Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Compensation Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     Description

    The Human Resources Department’s mission is to support our customers in accomplishing their missions by attracting and retaining a highly skilled and diversified workforce that is compensated and rewarded for its effort in an equitable, safe and responsible work environment. The Human Resources Compensation Associate facilitates the operation of the City's classification systems, the application of federal and state compensation laws to municipal employees, coordinates the position control process including logging, updating, adding and entering data in the city’s systems. The Associate is responsible for the processing of sensitive and confidential personnel transactions and maintenance of employee records, reviewing data for accuracy, creating/maintaining spreadsheets and activity logs, and assisting in various classification and compensation projects.

    • Exercised: This classification typically does not supervise other employees but may serve as a lead worker.
    • Received: This classification typically reports to a compensation lead work/supervisor, Human Resources Division Chief or another level of manager.

    Duties include but are not limited to

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES:


    • Under direct supervision, reviews and analyzes market data and internal data to make recommendations on leveling, salary ranges and salary recommendations.
    • Provides education to staff on position pay plans, compensation processes and internal resources
    • Executes and improves core processes such as annual merit/bonus administration and short-term incentive administration
    • Partners with key stakeholders and other HR staff to drive completion of compensation projects
    • Coordinates and manages programs and projects; prepares necessary forms and other documentation; performs necessary administrative duties related to programs
    • Under direct supervision, performs compensation data analysis and reporting for stakeholders leveraging the HRIS system
    • Prepares and maintains complex MS Excel spreadsheets
    • Communicates status updates to associates
    • Prepares, distributes and submits reports, logs, notes and other documents
    • Performs administrative duties and provides back-up support
    • Assists with special projects and ensures compliance of all compensation programs with federal, state and local regulations and programs
    • Leverages technology to increase productivity and efficiencies
    • Performs all additional related duties and responsibilities as required.
    • Conducts peer group analysis and research of market data.

    Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

    Required Training and Experience:


    • 3 years of Human Resources experience
    • Minimum High School Diploma or GED
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.
    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Experience using Oracle-based or similar HRIS systems.

    Preferred Certifications/Licenses:
    • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) preferred or
    • HRCI HR Certification (PHR/PHR) or
    • SHRM HR Certification (SHRM-CP)
    Preferred Training and Experience:
    • 2 years of work experience, with a preference for experience in Compensation, Analytics, Accounting, Finance or Payroll
    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources; Business Administration; Public Administration or a related field

The essential duties of this classification may require the ability to regularly finger, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions; frequently walk; and occasionally stoop, reach, stand, push, pull, lift, grasp, and feel. The working conditions may contain environmental hazards. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be sedentary, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
