Compensation Director is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the organization's compensation programs, including base pay, incentive pay, and performance management programs. Leads the compensation function and works with senior management to ensure that compensation strategy and programs support the organization's business objectives, meet all legal requirements, and deliver value and equitable pay. Being a Compensation Director develops compensation budget for assigned areas and manages budget after it is approved. Establishes data collection and analysis processes for market, pay equity, and other compensation studies. Job Summary
The Director of Compensation will be responsible for overseeing the operations of the payroll department, ensuring accurate and timely compensation processing for a diverse workforce of 10,000 full and part-time employees within a public preK-12 school district in Tennessee.
Essential Functions/Job Duties
Leadership and Management:
● Lead and manage a team of staff members within the payroll department.
● Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure optimal performance and professional development of the team.
● Foster a collaborative and positive work environment. Compensation Strategy:
● Develop, implement, and manage compensation strategies and programs aligned with the school district's objectives.
● Conduct regular reviews of compensation structures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, and payroll-related regulations.
Payroll Operations:
● Oversee all aspects of the payroll process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in the disbursement of salaries and wages, including applicable payroll related deductions..
● Collaborate with HR to maintain accurate employee records related to compensation and benefits.
● Collaborate with HR and IT to explore automated solutions to maximize efficiencies and productivity.
Compliance and Regulations:
● Stay informed about and ensure compliance with payroll taxes, Department of Labor wage hour requirements, and other relevant regulations.

Qualifications:
● A bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
● Proven leadership experience, preferably in a large and complex organization (5 plus years of managerial experience preferred).
● In-depth knowledge of payroll processes, tax regulations, and Department of Labor wage hour requirements (especially as they relate to the public education sector).
● Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
● Experience working with enterprise ERP payroll systems.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
● Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
