Compensation Director is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the organization's compensation programs, including base pay, incentive pay, and performance management programs. Leads the compensation function and works with senior management to ensure that compensation strategy and programs support the organization's business objectives, meet all legal requirements, and deliver value and equitable pay. Being a Compensation Director develops compensation budget for assigned areas and manages budget after it is approved. Establishes data collection and analysis processes for market, pay equity, and other compensation studies. Additionally, Compensation Director may be responsible for entire organization or for one or more major segments of a larger organization. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Compensation Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget.     Position Summary:

    The Compensation Director provides strategic direction and planning to execute the design, implementation, communication, and administration of the firm’s global compensation function.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • A key member of the Talent Services senior leadership team, the Director of Compensation serves as the firm’s subject matter expert on a broad array of compensation services globally for both associate attorneys and professional staff
    • Develops strategies, initiatives and messaging in support of the firm’s compensation philosophy and organizational objectives
    • Keeps abreast of compensation related regulatory and pay practice changes and trends in all firm markets. Ensures the firm’s compensation practices are market compliant, competitive and equitable
    • Leads the planning, administration, and execution of salary grading and position classification
    • Partners with firm leaders in support of talent acquisition activities, employee transfers, pay equity analyses, and development of job structures and mapping
    • Acts as business partner for local offices and firmwide Shared Service departments in reviewing, analyzing, and providing feedback on all job requisitions, hire proposals, promotion submissions and off-cycle salary increase requests
    • Develops financial modeling to establish fixed and variable pay budgets
    • Leads the annual salary administration and bonus planning process, including defining roles and responsibilities, identifying opportunities to automate procedures, ensuring data integrity, and preparing comprehensive reports of findings for senior management
    • Provides ongoing education to administrative managers and supervisors in connection with the firm’s compensation philosophy, structure and other pay best practices
    • Develops market pricing strategies, including refinement of benchmarking peer group, survey selection strategy, and job matching approach
    • Oversees firm’s survey participation, analysis and data integration
    • Partners with HRIS team to leverage Workday platform in support of compensation-related activities
    • Supervises and develops compensation team members
    • Assists with other firm and Talent Services department activities and initiatives as requested

    Qualifications & Prior Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (i.e., Human Resources, Business, Accounting) required; Master’s preferred
    • Ten plus years of experience preferably involving data analysis and financial modeling with three years of management/supervisory experience
    • Significant experience in global law firm or professional services organization in compensation/talent management/human resources
    • Fundamental understanding of complex global compensation design and analysis
    • Professional in Human Resources (PHR/SPHR) or SHRM CP/SCP certification preferred; CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) a plus
    • Substantive knowledge of HR disciplines, including project management, compensation analysis, and innovative problem solving
    • Must have experience with HR databases (Workday preferred) and other HRIS tools; familiar with reporting functionality
