  • Duties : Work Hours are Monday through Friday 9 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m.

    • Help to manage the Workers' Compensation program, including industrial accident reporting, case management, central workers' compensation database;
    • third party recoveries, over payment recoveries; temporary modified work options; pre-employment physicals; fitness for duty exams, injury prevention training programs;
    • technical assistance; Monitor and evaluate the Industrial Accident database, site case management processing including : claims filing, HR / CMS data entry;
    • claims approval, claims investigation; employee related status notifications; litigation case preparation; data collection, analysis and reporting;

    employee modified duty agreements. Works closely with Payroll Unit for proper leave coding and to ensure payments are correct.

    • Advises HRD as to the need for medical evaluations, investigations or other special needs for claim; monitors IME process, including ordering of examinations, to ensure reports are received timely to assist in case management;
    • assists the D.O.C. attorneys with the collection of information regarding claims, particularly those that may be disputed (this duty may involve interaction with Superintendent and / or IA coordinator for facility / division);
    • supervises the preparation of resumption and Temporary Modified Work Program agreements as well as the Accidental Disability Retirement packages on affected employees;
    • keeps the Workers' Compensation Coordinator apprised of all problem cases and any settlement requests as they occur; interacts with staff and outside agencies as appropriate in managing the DOC IA caseload;
    • prepares special reports as assigned; provides assistance to other Human Resource Department units when requested or assigned;
    • inputs and monitors transactions for HR / CMS to ensure appropriate payments, use of benefit time and the tracking of industrial accident leave time;

    performs duties related to GIC and LTD when needed; performs related work as required.

    Performs personnel functions for the Department of Correction including providing information to employees, supervisors, and managers regarding the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act, the Commonwealth's Enhanced Family Friendly Policies and Benefits, the Small Necessities Leave Act, Extended Illness Leave Bank, and Military Leave.

    Reviews, determines eligibility, and processes requests for leave accurately and in a timely manner. Prepares correspondence for Director, Superintendent and Department Head's signature.

    Maintains and updates related databases. Generates standardized reports on leaves as well as specialized reports on request.

    Represents the Leave Unit, when necessary, at various internal and external meetings.

    Preferred Qualifications :

    Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel.

    Comments :

    This is a Civil Service position. Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement.

    Applicants must have no felony convictions, to include any actions defined in 5 U.S.C. 301; U.S.C. 509, 510; 42 U.S.C. 15601-15609.

    The Massachusetts Department of Correction shall not hire anyone who may have direct contact with offenders, who has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.

    S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph.

    The agency shall consider any incidents of sexual harassment in determining whether to hire anyone who may have contact with offenders or residents.

    Qualifications :

    First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days .

    Minimum entrance requirements :

    Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in personnel work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

    Substitutions : A Bachelor's degree or higher may be substituted for the required experience.*

    Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
