Community Organizer develops and coordinates social service programs to communicate and raise awareness of services and resources available to the community. Networks with community leaders and officials to raise awareness of specific social or environmental issues. Being a Community Organizer plans and devises action plans to access resources. Organizes community members to work toward a common goal supported by staff and volunteer workers. Additionally, Community Organizer may require a bachelor's degree. QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
· High School graduate;
· Proficient Computer skills - create flyers, programs and calendars (experience with OneDrive, Excel, and desktop publishing is a plus.)
· Exceptional organizational and time-management skills;
· Ability to participate in or lead a variety of indoor and outdoor activities (lead games, direct exercise classes, crafts, and assist with gardening and fishing);
· Ability to assist in setting up and tearing down for special events (parties and holiday programs like Veterans’ Day, decorations);
· Must be willing to work together as a team, but must also be a self-starter who can work independently;
· Must have great customer service and communication skills and be able to build a rapport with our seniors in a calm, respectful manner;
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This work environment is not confined to an office setting and will sometimes involve stair-climbing, an ample amount of walking (often to neighboring buildings), as well as walking throughout our buildings for the distribution of newsletters, calendars, or other materials. This position will also occasionally work to facilitate activities outdoors (gardening and fishing experience is a plus!)
Our activities assistant will also accompany and sometimes transport residents on off-campus excursions (e.g. picnics, museum tours, baseball games, ice cream stores, etc.) Applicants must have a clean motor vehicle driving record.
The position is full-time, 8:00AM-4:00PM, Monday through Friday, $15.00/hour.
