The Daniel Payne Legacy Village Foundation was established in 2014 with the mission “To foster community growth through education, technology, economics, and wellness.” The vision of the organization is to create a future built on a legacy through a 6-point Development Strategy focused on developing the following areas: education, workforce, community, homeownership, economics, and food/wellness. The Foundation oversees the Community Plaza, which houses education, community, and wellness programming for the community.
Position Summary:
The Community Engagement Specialist at Daniel Payne Legacy Village Foundation will be instrumental in fostering strong connections between our organization and the community we serve. Responsibilities include developing and implementing comprehensive community engagement plans and strategies to effectively reach and involve local residents, businesses, churches, and leaders. This involves organizing and executing community events and programs aligned with the foundation's mission, while also managing its social media presence to promote engagement and share information. Collaborating with internal teams, the specialist will ensure consistent communication and coordinate efforts to address community needs. Additionally, they will collect and analyze data to measure the impact of engagement activities, providing regular reports and identifying areas for improvement. Serving as a liaison between the community and the organization, the specialist will promptly address concerns and feedback while representing the foundation at various community meetings and events. The role also entails training volunteers and staff, assisting in promotional efforts, and contributing to grant writing and fundraising initiatives as necessary. By staying informed on community trends and needs, the specialist will support the organization's relevance and effectiveness in serving the community.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties:
Community engagement (70%)
Develop and implement comprehensive community engagement plans and strategies.
Build and maintain relationships with community members, local businesses, churches, community leaders, local businesses, and other stakeholders.
Manage social media accounts and other online platforms to promote engagement and disseminate information.
Plan, organize, and execute community events and programs that align with our organization’s mission and goals.
Stay informed on community needs and trends to ensure our organization’s relevance and effectiveness.
Represent the organization at community meetings, events, and forums.
Develop and distribute promotional materials such as flyers, brochures, and posters to spread awareness of Daniel Payne programs.
Team Support and Collaboration (20%)
Act as a liaison between the community and our organization, addressing concerns and feedback promptly.
Coordinate with internal teams to ensure consistent and effective communication.
Train volunteers and staff assisting in promoting programming.
Assist in grant writing and fundraising efforts as needed.
Data Analysis and Reporting (10%)
Collect and analyze data on community engagement activities to measure impact and identify areas for improvement.
Provide regular reports on community engagement activities and outcomes.
Qualifications:
Coursework completed in communications, public relations, social work, or a related field
At least 2 years of experience in community engagement, outreach, or a related role
Demonstrated effectiveness working with diverse populations
Commitment to Daniel Payne’s mission and values, and overall passion for social change and community development with a focus on increasing equity and inclusion
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to organize and coordinate events
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Proficient with social media platforms and other online engagement tools
Proficient in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, accounting software, and experience with
grant management software.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively
Valid Driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle for community events
Preferred Skills/Qualifications
Proficient in Spanish
Prior knowledge of and/or connection to community served
Proactive and goal-oriented mindset, with a focus on achieving tangible results
