Community Development Manager manages the economic development lending activities to support or subsidize improvements in the community. Ensures company visibility is established in the area and promotes relationships with groups, agencies, and organizations in the community to identify lending and other business development opportunities. Being a Community Development Manager evaluates the current and future credit needs of the community and develops a strong understanding of the local issues and needs. Actively monitors public programs that support community development initiatives. Additionally, Community Development Manager initiates policy changes or enhancements to ensure compliance with Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and other regulations. Makes recommendations to expand and develop lending programs. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Community Development Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Community Development Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     We’re looking for a new Development Associate to join our Development team in our Newport Beach office. As our Development Associate, you will continue to learn the ins-and-outs of multi-family development and affordable housing, ultimately leading your own development projects.


    About the role:
    • Providing general administrative and clerical support for the Development department.
    • Preparing internal research and reports, including investment committee memos and development briefs. 
    • Assisting in development and management of overall project budget and financing. 
    • Assisting in tracking project schedules and escrow timelines. 
    • Assisting in preparing and submitting funding applications. 
    • Assist with analyzing potential development sites. 
    • Evaluation of financial feasibility and preparation of underwriting and finance plans for development.
    • Ordering third party due diligence. 
    • Assisting in oversight of internal and third-party project team members and project lenders/funders.
    • Assisting project close-out requirements with funders. 
    • Additional projects, initiatives and responsibilities as assigned.

    If the following describes you, we want to hear from you:
    • Thorough understanding of MS Office and Google Workspace, and proficient knowledge of MS Excel. 
    • Ability to work successfully both independently and with others, building professional working relationships with co-workers, non-profits and service partners that are based on mutual trust and respect.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills (in English), allowing for clear and succinct communication in a variety of settings (phone, in-person and email), and with people of various backgrounds and levels, both internally and externally.
    • Ability to learn new technology and new concepts easily when tackling problems and assigned tasks, including digital tools and programs, industry lingo, and industry knowledge.
    • A strong customer focus, with dedication to meeting the expectations, needs and requirements of internal and external partners, residents, and community members, successfully gaining their trust and respect.
    • Strong planning and organizing skills, with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and while adhering to deadlines.
    • Strong analytical skills with great attention to detail.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field. 
    • Minimum two years of experience in the real estate, finance, or construction industry, focused on housing, project management, multi-family development, asset management, or financial analysis.
    • Knowledge of, and experience with, affordable housing development preferred.

    The salary range for this position is $65,000-$95,000.
