Community Development Compliance Specialist ensures the organization's adherence with Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) banking laws. Reviews and analyzes lending activity data as well as other activities and policies of the organization to ensure compliance with CRA policies. Being a Community Development Compliance Specialist coordinates the preparation of required government, regulatory, and other compliance documents for all community development activities. Advises management and coordinates with legal staff on potential impact of actions. Additionally, Community Development Compliance Specialist develops and recommends guidelines and standards to assist with compliance. Has current and extensive knowledge of all CRA regulations and policies. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Community Development Compliance Specialist gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.   • About this Position

    The Central District Community Preservation and Development Authority (CDCPDA) has an outstanding opportunity for a Grants and Development Specialist. This person will develop and implement fundraising and engagement strategies to achieve our goal of supporting rehabilitation and capital improvements for the McKinney Center for Community & Economic Development. The Center will be a multi-purpose facility that will serve as a hub for education, workforce training, business development, and other services for the African American community and other minority and underserved communities.

    The Development and Grants Specialist will identify opportunities and submit grant proposals, promote CDCPDA’s mission with lawmakers, assist with fundraising events, and coordinate campaigns. This person will work with the CEO and Financial Specialist to help us achieve 501c3 status.

    Success in this role requires a genuine connection to and/or understanding of the Central District community and its legacy of African American advocacy and achievement or other similar communities that have been marginalized, under-served, and/or displaced.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

    • Maintain a strong understanding of funding priorities for the CDCPDA and communicate appropriately.
    • Work with the Board and CDCPDA team to conceptualize, develop, and implement qualification and solicitation strategies.
    • Build and sustain long-term relationships with individual and corporate donors, lawmakers, and community partners while aligning their goals with those of the CDCPDA.
    • Directly advocate CDCPDA's purpose and initiatives within state and local government, leveraging support for our programs. This may include registering as a Washington State lobbyist on behalf of the CDCPDA.
    • Identify potential grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, corporations, and other funding sources.
    • Manage the entire lifecycle of the grant process, including writing, preparing, collecting letters of support and MOUs, submitting grant applications, generating narrative reports, managing grant reporting requirements, ensuring compliance with grant terms and conditions, and closing out grant files for audit.
    • Maintain a grants calendar with the dates and other information of upcoming grant applications and a reference list of grants awards, outcomes, and compliance requirements; contribute to accurate and updated database record keeping.
    • Support the Community Engagement Coordinator in hosting building tours and events that bring together communities, funders, donors, and supporters, sharing CDCPDA’s impact and purpose.
    • Ensure all donors, sponsors, and funders, receive appropriate and timely acknowledgements for their gifts.
    • Prepare, review, and edit materials needed to secure sponsorships, including marketing materials.
    • Work closely with the CEO and Finance to secure 501c3 status.
    • Maintain and apply working knowledge of funding trends, best practices in grant writing and grants management, and changes in the funding landscape affecting CDCPDA.

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, Communications, or related field and three (3) years experience working with fundraising/development/advancement teams and developing major gift and/or grant proposals. An equivalent combination of education and experience is also welcome.
    • Advocacy experience with state and local government.
    • Thorough knowledge of Washington State grant application policies, procedures, and processes, including working knowledge of best practices, grant funding research tools, and the ability to create grant budgets.
    • Thorough understanding of the requirements and regulations governing 501c3 organization.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to adapt writing for various audiences, from institutional funders to members and individual donors, and manage effective fundraising communications across multiple channels.
    • Strong grammar and spelling skills with the ability to independently compose and/or edit materials; experience proofing and editing under tight deadlines.
    • Proficient with MS Office tools, database tools, and internet research.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $38.00 - $41.00 per hour
