    Position Description

    We are looking for our next colleague to join us in supporting the university campus with our communication and customer service needs.

    We are seeking a person who can craft communications to speak to diverse populations via email, website, social media, and on the telephone. This person enjoys collaborating and communicating with a wide range of people in various positions of power in support of equitable university policies and procedures.

    This position will be best filled by a person who enjoys providing clear, thoughtful, and caring customer service. The candidate enjoys working independently and yet contributes and feels supported as part of a larger team. The ideal candidate can apply policy to real-world scenarios, adapt to changing needs, and manage many tasks at the same time, all while maintaining a sense of humor. This position would be great for individuals looking to pursue a degree, someone returning to the workforce after time away, and people looking to obtain work experience in an academic setting.

    The Office of the Registrar

    The Office of the Registrar is a 12-person strong and nimble team within Academic Affairs and reporting to the Office of the Provost. The department plays a key role in the student and faculty experience.

    Responsibilities:

    Communication (40%)

    • Create or revise quarterly emails, commencement emails, social media posts and fliers
    • Assist with various marketing/awareness campaigns
    • Draft, edit, and send quarterly emails and commencement emails
    • Build preliminary annual important dates and maintain 5- year term date calendars
    • Build and maintain website content
    • Stay current and support technology updates related to campus communications

    Service Desk Support (40%)

    • Create and maintain the quarterly service desk schedule
    • Lead student and staff training on the Redhawk Service Desk
    • Staff daily shifts on the Redhawk Service Desk

    Student Worker Supervision (15%)

    • Hire, train and manage schedules and performance of customer service facing student workers.

    Other duties: (5%)

    • Special projects; other duties as assigned
    • Everyone adapts and pitches in, keeps the office clean, loads the dishwasher, tidies up the space, and organizes celebrations (welcome, birthday, going away, big life stuff, happy hours, and just because)

    Work structure

    • Full time (37.5 hours/week)
    • Duties will typically be performed during university business hours (Monday-Friday 8 am-4:30pm). Occasional departures from this schedule are typically limited to the first 2 days of each academic term, commencement, and limited events requiring staffing.
    • In-person office in a cubicle environment with majority screen-time work
    • Staff Flexwork policy allows some flexibility to work remotely one day a week, with supervisor approval after a probationary period
    • This position supports the student/faculty-facing service desk requiring face-to-face, phone, and email interactions

    Compensation

    • $42,900-$46,500 annual salary range (MRR04)

    Qualifications

    Desired Experience & Skill Set

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, English or a relatable field or a high school diploma plus two or more years of progressively responsible administrative office support experience in higher education and experience working with a variety of people OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
    • Strong professional communication skills, both written and verbal with diverse population
    • A demonstrated ability to design messaging especially for a large target audience
    • Success working both independently and collaboratively in a nimble team environment
    • Familiarity with the academic, social and/or public sector, and a passion for equity & justice
    • Organized and detail-oriented – To-do lists excite you!
    • Solid research and problem-solving skills – You love solving a good mystery!
    • Demonstrated experience and success in managing workloads – You can juggle like a jester!
    • Excellent customer service attitude and customer focus – Quality service with a smile!
    • This position requires a criminal history background check.
    • Experience with web management systems (TerminalFour), creating and sending email communications (Axios HQ), and managing social media accounts (Instagram and Twitter) a plus

    Compensation at a Glance:

    Salary Range: $42,900- $46,500

    Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate’s gender or any other protected status.
