Communications Editor Manager manages a staff of editors who write, prepare, and review content to be used in company publications. Develops, implements, and maintains editorial policies and standards and ensures conformance. Being a Communications Editor Manager reviews the team's work product and gives final approval. Acts as advisor to editing team regarding projects, tasks, and operations. Additionally, Communications Editor Manager oversees the coordination of production and distribution activities. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Communications Editor Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Communications Editor Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. The Managing Editor is the second in command for the newsroom. Besides your responsibilities, you will get experience and training that will make you a strong news director in the future.


    You must have the ability to coach and mentor staff to build a strong news organization with enterprise stories that matter to viewers and readers. We are very collaborative and get the whole team involved because we all care about the product and each other. Plus, Tulsa is a good place to live and work with a ton of things to do, and it is much less expensive than many other parts of the country.


    As Managing Editor, you have a crucial role in overseeing the news operations with the News Director to ensure the effective functioning of the news. Your duties will include:


    Newsroom Management: Supervise and guide the work of reporters, producers, and other editorial staff. Ensure that the newsroom operates efficiently, meets deadlines, and maintains high journalistic standards.


    Editorial Planning: Collaborate with other newsroom managers and the news director to develop and execute the newsroom's editorial strategy. This includes identifying newsworthy stories and ensuring they are assigned.


    News Judgment: Determine the appropriate level of coverage for different stories based on their significance, impact, and audience interest.


    Strategy and Tactics: you will be involved in implementing and have input into FOX23’s strategy and tactics.


    Breaking News/Crisis Management: Play a key role in managing crises or major breaking news events. Coordinate coverage, provide guidance to reporters and producers, and make real-time editorial decisions.


    Story Assignments: Assign reporters to cover specific stories or beats based on their expertise and the newsroom's priorities. Coordinate coverage of breaking news, special events, and long-term projects.


    Content Editing: Review scripts, articles, and other content to ensure accuracy, fairness, and adherence to the newsroom's editorial policies and standards.


    Newsroom Coordination: Foster effective communication and collaboration between different areas within the newsroom, such as the assignment desk, producers, reporters, and production staff.


    Ethical Standards: Uphold and enforce ethical guidelines and journalistic integrity within the newsroom. Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including copyright, privacy, and libel laws.
