Job Title: Communications Writer/Editor
Supervisor: Chief Officer, Communications (Staff Attorney)
Terms of Employment: 246 days
Job Summary: Communications Writer/Editor will construct copy, both long and short form, for various audiences/stakeholders and in a variety of formats within the context of communicating the District’s mission and goals. The successful applicant must be able to work well on his/her own, collaborate a member of a team, possess a keen eye for detail, along with the ability to articulate compelling narratives.
Essential Duties:
- work closely with team members to ensure quality and quantity of communications for the District,
- conduct research, with thorough fact checks, before and during the writing process to include preparing material for various assignments,
- ensure the logical flow of all writing produced with great attention to detail regarding content, punctuation, grammar, spelling, and the appropriate tone for the intended audience,
- develop and write news releases, District-wide printed materials, website and social media copy, speeches/statements, talking points, etc.,
- edit and proof different communication items received or developed by the Communications Department using Associated Press style requirements,
- manage the proofing process to include receiving and logging editing jobs, communicating the status with requestors, and archiving completed jobs,
- maintain excellent content records by efficiently reviewing and documenting items sent through the Communications Department,
- produce a monthly online faculty/staff newsletter and/or other regular communication pieces,
- assist with various writing assignments,
- ensure timely follow up with supervisor and/or others, and
- other duties as may be assigned to enhance communications for the District
Other Duties:

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required):
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of five years of related professional experience are required.
- Must be very detail-oriented and extremely organized.
- Possess excellent writing, editing, verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Possess and demonstrate extensive knowledge of communication strategies that incorporate sound journalistic principles to disseminate information in traditional and emerging technological forms.
- Exhibit a professional manner in collaborating with others and strives to maintain constructive working relationships,
- Have strong interpersonal and customer service skills,
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team setting,
- Perform well and with accuracy in a fast-paced environment,
- Proficient in the use of computers, applications, and other forms of technology, and
- Meet schedules and timelines.

Working conditions are normal for an office environment to include prolonged periods of sitting and working from a computer, laptop, or digital device.
- Work will require dexterity and physical ability for transport and operation of video equipment.
- Work assignments may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
- Current driver’s license and access to reliable transportation; ability and willingness to travel when necessary.
