Commodity Manager implements a commodity procurement and inventory strategy that supports a company's manufacturing supply chain. Manages the policies and processes to purchase raw materials required to process and manufacture products, conduct research, or enable other business activities. Being a Commodity Manager monitors and analyzes the commodities market, global economic conditions, and events to make informed purchase decisions. Identifies, evaluates, and monitors suppliers and develops relationships to provide reliable sourcing and ensure the quality and availability of required commodities. Additionally, Commodity Manager oversees bidding and contract negotiations to obtain the best pricing to meet commodity needs. Analyzes inventory levels, manufacturing schedules, and long-term business objectives to plan and manage purchases. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and standards governing the purchase and delivery of goods. Requires a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Commodity Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Position Objective:
To negotiate, purchase and handle logistics of all commodity and grain ingredients for the feed division in a manner that will optimize the cooperative’s market share and savings, improve the cooperative’s efficiency, help achieve the cooperative’s mission and goals, and result in outstanding customer service.
Position Responsibilities:
Grain and Commodity Origination
· Procure all bulk ingredients necessary to service full-line feed mill
· Coordinate truck and rail transportation for incoming ingredients
· Negotiate best price and terms with suppliers on ingredients and freight
· Monitor daily inventories to coordinate timely delivery of incoming feedstuffs
· Analyze local, domestic, and global industry information to make recommendations and purchasing decisions that maximize profitability and meet operational goals and objectives
Recordkeeping
· Maintain daily grain positions
· Maintain grain related records including contracts and settlements
· Develop and maintain a working knowledge of grain industry requirements
Position Requirements:
· 4 year degree in Agriculture, Business or equivalent experience
· 5 Years of experience in purchasing, trading, or merchandising
· Working knowledge of commodity futures, options, and basis
· Strong communication and organizational skills
· Computer skills with knowledge of spreadsheets required
· Valid divers license and clean driving record
· Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, twist and lift/move objects up to 50lbs
