Commodity Manager implements a commodity procurement and inventory strategy that supports a company's manufacturing supply chain. Manages the policies and processes to purchase raw materials required to process and manufacture products, conduct research, or enable other business activities. Being a Commodity Manager monitors and analyzes the commodities market, global economic conditions, and events to make informed purchase decisions. Identifies, evaluates, and monitors suppliers and develops relationships to provide reliable sourcing and ensure the quality and availability of required commodities. Additionally, Commodity Manager oversees bidding and contract negotiations to obtain the best pricing to meet commodity needs. Analyzes inventory levels, manufacturing schedules, and long-term business objectives to plan and manage purchases. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and standards governing the purchase and delivery of goods. Requires a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Commodity Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Commodity Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Commodity Inventory Controller

  • The Castroville Distribution Center, a refrigerated facility operating 24/7; is currently seeking a Commodity Inventory Controller to join our team. The essential function of this position is to ensure quality inspection of tomatoes and peppers and cucumbers grown in in our greenhouse farms and that they will meet our customer specifications


    Primary Responsibilities:
    • Inspect and sign off on product quality in inventory and/or at dock to meet customers’ specifications.
    • Support Commodity Supervisors plan to create daily Production and Sales Order allocations.
    • Ensure any rework is allocated and/or firm planned to Production to meet customer spec.
    • Ensure allocations are updated and distributed, throughout the day, and executed as expected.
    • Utilize, coach, and provide training to others within the commodity team.
    • Maintain a line of sight on expected inbounds 0 – 3 days out.
    • Coordinate and assist in communicating customers’ expectations with the commodity team, Production,
    and Shipping.
    • Communicate with the team issues and concerns for yesterday and today.
    • Develop, lead, mentor and set objectives for the commodity team including formal performance reviews.
    • Maintain regular communication with multiple departments and managers.
    • Make suggestions to Commodity Supervisor for the disposal/movement of surplus commodities.
    • Routinely monitor, verify, and give feedback to Production on their accuracy of product grading.
    • Maintain necessary department metrics on which the performance of the team is measured.
    • Utilize the ERP system and communicate technical needs for improving performance.
    Education/Background Requirements:
    • College degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Three years of related work experience required.
    Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
    • Willingness to work independently, with minimal supervision and take ownership of job.
    • Must have strong communication skills.
    • Must be high-performance team player and be willing to work in a dynamic, growing, demanding and fastpaced environment.
    • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Need to be creative, adaptable and able to accurately handle out-of-the-ordinary issues with a sense of
    urgency.
    • Effectively follow-up and handle multiple projects with strong personal time-management skills.
    • Proficient in basic computer-use skills (i.e. Word, Excel) and will need to learn NAV, JDA.
    • Must be a self-starter and willing to work flexible hours.

    Working Conditions:
    • Combination of office and refrigerated warehouse environment.
    • Must be capable of lifting up to 30 lbs.
