Commodity Manager implements a commodity procurement and inventory strategy that supports a company's manufacturing supply chain. Manages the policies and processes to purchase raw materials required to process and manufacture products, conduct research, or enable other business activities. Being a Commodity Manager monitors and analyzes the commodities market, global economic conditions, and events to make informed purchase decisions. Identifies, evaluates, and monitors suppliers and develops relationships to provide reliable sourcing and ensure the quality and availability of required commodities. Additionally, Commodity Manager oversees bidding and contract negotiations to obtain the best pricing to meet commodity needs. Analyzes inventory levels, manufacturing schedules, and long-term business objectives to plan and manage purchases. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and standards governing the purchase and delivery of goods. Requires a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Commodity Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Commodity Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Position Overview:

    Siemens Mobility is seeking to fill a Commodity Manager to drive the development and implementation of a procurement strategy and proactively engage the business and cross functional partners to ensure alignment with business requirements, early procurement, and supplier involvement. You will work to achieving financial and non-financial targets by application of all relevant procurement levers, i.e. negotiations, supplier management, contract management, and delivery reliability. This role will report into the head of commodity management and plays a key role in driving a strong culture of accountability, execution, collaboration, and customer focus to develop and implement a procurement strategy for assigned commodities. The role can be based in Sacramento, CA or Lexington, NC working in a hybrid setting.

    What your day-to-day will look like:

    • Manage the total Purchasing Volume (PVO) of assigned commodities.
    • Establish best in class supply-chain-management processes focused on productivity, quality, and availability.
    • Derive innovative material field strategies based on market intelligence, gear procurement processes towards strategic objectives. Ensure implementation and development of Siemens strategy, for assigned commodities.
    • Drive supplier management processes to obtain the best suppliers and ensure transparency and early integration.
    • Lead supplier management in commercial issues, supplier qualification, development, and overall relationship management.
    • Negotiate master procurement agreements, including pricing, terms & conditions, payment terms in alignment with the wider Siemens community.
    • Apply supply market intelligence, Siemens spend pooling, and all commercial and technical levers to drive productivity.
    • Identify and qualify new suppliers, negotiate contracts, and lead supplier relationships to ensure alignment with company objectives and standards.
    • Conduct Siemens spend data, supply market intelligence, supplier analysis.
    • Develop and implement, with cross functional input, commodity strategies, pooling strategies, supplier strategies & negotiation roadmap
    • Leverage supplier expertise and/or technology to harness improvements in reducing total costs of ownership.
    • Collaborate with global commodity management and/or product management while optimizing company-wide buying power by reviewing the financial, quality, pricing, service, and availability level of suppliers.
    • Develop supplier relationships resulting in optimized supply chain efficiencies and security of supply. Evaluate supplier's capabilities and capacities while implementing plans to ensure adequate supply of goods and services. Negotiate agreements with suppliers that mitigate or spread the overall risk.

    To thrive in this role, you have:

    • Bachelor's degree in economics, engineering or business-related degree.
    • Minimum of 2 years of overall experience related to supply chain.
    • Consistent record of success in developing and implementing sourcing strategies that deliver cost savings and supply chain improvements.
    • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to drive favorable contract terms and agreements.
    • Knowledge of supply chain principles, supplier risk management, and regulatory compliance.
    • Demonstrated understanding of entire supply chain and cost drivers.
    • Demonstrated data and financial analysis capability.
    • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills and ability to negotiate with both internal and external partners.
    • Microsoft Suite computer skills, with exceptional skills in Excel & working with large data sets.
    • Excellently demonstrated verbal and written communications skills.
    • Ability to travel 10-15% domestically.
    • Setting you apart from others would be experience with SAP and electronic purchasing tools. Cross functional/organizational project management and facilitation skills and demonstrated knowledge of category management concepts or strategic sourcing concepts with solid continuous improvement skills. CPM, CPSM certification a strong plus.

The base salary range for this position in Sacramento, CA is $$79,400-$107,200 and in Lexington, NC is $72,100-$97,400. The actual salary/wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
