Commodity Manager implements a commodity procurement and inventory strategy that supports a company's manufacturing supply chain. Manages the policies and processes to purchase raw materials required to process and manufacture products, conduct research, or enable other business activities. Being a Commodity Manager monitors and analyzes the commodities market, global economic conditions, and events to make informed purchase decisions. Identifies, evaluates, and monitors suppliers and develops relationships to provide reliable sourcing and ensure the quality and availability of required commodities. Additionally, Commodity Manager oversees bidding and contract negotiations to obtain the best pricing to meet commodity needs. Analyzes inventory levels, manufacturing schedules, and long-term business objectives to plan and manage purchases. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and standards governing the purchase and delivery of goods. Requires a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Commodity Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Commodity Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     POSITION PURPOSE

    To manage corn origination, co-product logistics and related functions to maximize the benefit to the Company. Responsible for procuring corn at the best price. Sound administration of local corn risk position to reduce risk and enhance plant profitability.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

    • Responsible for procuring corn from suppliers at competitive price given market conditions at time of purchase.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with area producers and commercial entities with a strong emphasis on direct farmer origination.
    • Report purchases in accordance with the Corn Contract Policy to ensure hedging strategies are followed as outlined in the Risk Management Policy.
    • Review contracts and hedging transactions for correctness.
    • Ensure purchase contracts are signed and returned as outlined in the Corn Contract Policy.
    • Continue to develop and update producer and commercial contacts.
    • Monitor and report grain movement in the area for better market insight throughout the company.
    • Manage daily activity of the scale house to ensure proper grading of corn. Retain samples as required to address and resolve disputes.
    • Work directly with the Plant Manager to maintain proper corn inventory levels that optimize plant operations.
    • Report inventory levels to management and RPMG as required.
    • Maintain excellent communication with the team including RPMG, railroad personnel, administrative and production staff.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education/Certification:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or related field required.

    Required Knowledge & Experience:

    • 2 years of commodity procurement experience with knowledge of the grain industry.
    • Supervisory experience preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.
    • Knowledge of general office equipment required.
    • Experience with grain accounting software required.

    Skills/Abilities:

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong basic math and analytical skills.
    • Ability to maintain good relationships with both internal and external customers.
    • Strong problem-solving skills, negotiation tactics, and an ability to resolve disputes and overcome obstacles.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities with efficiency and accuracy, and ability to conduct actions with professionalism and integrity.


    PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

    • Time will be spent in a temperature-controlled office-based environment.
    • Must be able to speak and listen clearly.
    • Fine visual acuity to read for accuracy.
    • Some local travel required or as needed.
    • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
