Commodity Manager implements a commodity procurement and inventory strategy that supports a company's manufacturing supply chain. Manages the policies and processes to purchase raw materials required to process and manufacture products, conduct research, or enable other business activities. Being a Commodity Manager monitors and analyzes the commodities market, global economic conditions, and events to make informed purchase decisions. Identifies, evaluates, and monitors suppliers and develops relationships to provide reliable sourcing and ensure the quality and availability of required commodities. Additionally, Commodity Manager oversees bidding and contract negotiations to obtain the best pricing to meet commodity needs. Analyzes inventory levels, manufacturing schedules, and long-term business objectives to plan and manage purchases. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and standards governing the purchase and delivery of goods. Requires a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Commodity Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Commodity Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     We are currently seeking a commodity buyer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in purchasing and a passion for the commodities market. As a commodity buyer, you will be responsible for sourcing and negotiating the best deals for our company.

    Ingredients for your Success:


    As the Commodity Buyer, you will be a vital part of the team focused on working directly with vendors and sales daily to ensure all products are in stock at fair market prices. Commodity Buyers oversee 25MM pounds or $100MM or more in annual purchases for the company. Additionally, Buyers help train replenishment and apprentice buyers daily. Of critical importance in this role is the positive and solid vendor relationships that are built and maintained to ensure long-term partnerships. This position is a role exempt from DOL overtime rules and reports to the Procurement Manager.

    Requirements

    • Purchasing and Negotiation – the ability to negotiate POs and products daily.
    • Responsible for hitting all financial targets and profit margins on all assigned categories.
    • Assures pricing on all items is market-relevant every day.
    • Buying and product training – the ability to work with and train fellow buyers on processes and items.
    • Travel – (15% expected).
    • Responsible for maintaining a vendor review Schedule of a minimum of 2 reviews annually with all vendors, scheduled well in advance with purchasing leadership and marketing.
    • Creates and maintains proper stock levels and inventory values.
    • Always maintains proper stock levels and inventory values.
    • Able to strategize and execute long-term buys to exceed profit targets.
    • Finds and grows new vendor partnerships constantly.
    • Other tasks may be assigned from time to time.

    Work Environment AND Physical Requirements

    • Most work is performed in a standard office or remote setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards; substantial time is spent working on a computer. 
    • Working in a cold environment for limited times, when necessary, in the Warehouse is also required.

    Education Required

    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • Two years commodity level purchasing is required, preferably in proteins. 

    Experience AND Other Skills Required

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
    • Ability to multi-task, strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to follow directions, ability to work independently. 
    • Always professionally conduct oneself. 
    • Must be able to also work as part of a team.
