Commodity Manager implements a commodity procurement and inventory strategy that supports a company's manufacturing supply chain. Manages the policies and processes to purchase raw materials required to process and manufacture products, conduct research, or enable other business activities. Being a Commodity Manager monitors and analyzes the commodities market, global economic conditions, and events to make informed purchase decisions. Identifies, evaluates, and monitors suppliers and develops relationships to provide reliable sourcing and ensure the quality and availability of required commodities. Additionally, Commodity Manager oversees bidding and contract negotiations to obtain the best pricing to meet commodity needs. Analyzes inventory levels, manufacturing schedules, and long-term business objectives to plan and manage purchases. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and standards governing the purchase and delivery of goods. Requires a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Commodity Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Commodity Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Commodity Management – Within the scope of indirect commodities, develops request for quotations, analyzes supplier responses, negotiates and implements supplier business awards for the assigned commodities by creating commodity-level strategy and tactics to meet continuity of supply, cost reduction, low-cost country sourcing, etc. Works collaboratively with internal customers to understand and consolidate purchasing requirements from all Safran companies in the Americas. Implement and help define indirect corporate contracts, guidelines and policies. Works collaboratively with internal customers to understand and consolidate purchasing requirements from all Safran companies. Develop market intelligence and validate commodity strategies including type of management: Global, Country, Regional, and Local
    Sourcing/Supply Base Development & Management– Supplier identification, evaluation, selection, performance management, supply base rightsizing, executive supplier interface, and management of single/sole source relationships.
    Contract Development and Negotiation – Development and negotiation of agreements, including pricing road maps, Safran's standard terms and conditions, expectations, procurement best practices, risk mitigation, etc. Monitors supplier performance and contract execution.

    Program Management– Manages key cost reduction programs. These programs could include such things as supplier changes, supplier relocations to low-cost regions, negotiations, design changes, etc. Deliver savings per the budget and forecast plan, document and report savings.

    Other Responsibilities:
    • Defines procedures, practices, processes and contract models (in collaboration with Legal) to best market standards for each commodity group
    • Proposes improvements of tools & processes and develop purchasing maturity within the Group, fosters operational excellence
    • Partners with the Senior Management Team and Safran group teams to align purchasing with the overall business strategy
    • Propose and lead initiatives to constantly improve our practices, efficiency, and processes
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the company

    Job requirements

    Required Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS)
    • Three (3) or more years of related experience to include purchasing contract negotiation, strategic sourcing and building commodity/category strategies.

    Preferred Education and Experience

    • Project Management experience
    • Knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP is a plus
    • Knowledge of French and/or Spanish languages is a plus
    • Technical knowledge or Engineering background is a plus
    • Managing indirect commodities (non-production)

    Additional Eligibility Requirements

    • Demonstrates knowledge of the procurement and supply chain industry

    • Must have intermediate to advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word & Outlook
