Commodity Manager implements a commodity procurement and inventory strategy that supports a company's manufacturing supply chain. Manages the policies and processes to purchase raw materials required to process and manufacture products, conduct research, or enable other business activities. Being a Commodity Manager monitors and analyzes the commodities market, global economic conditions, and events to make informed purchase decisions. Identifies, evaluates, and monitors suppliers and develops relationships to provide reliable sourcing and ensure the quality and availability of required commodities. Additionally, Commodity Manager oversees bidding and contract negotiations to obtain the best pricing to meet commodity needs. Analyzes inventory levels, manufacturing schedules, and long-term business objectives to plan and manage purchases. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and standards governing the purchase and delivery of goods. Requires a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Commodity Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Commodity Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Position Summary:

    Responsible for achieving budgeted volume and variable margin through the sale of commodity products in the Region.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Develop and maintain contact with customers in the region to grow commodity volume and variable margin. Develop sales strategy to achieve the company's annual budget objectives. Coordinate sales efforts with Field Sales Team and National Distributor Team.
    • Manage all pricing for commodity items for the region. Review daily sales volume and profit performance of the region and customers. Report performance to the Director of Commodity Sales monthly & semi-annually.
    • Communicate current commodity market dynamics to distributor customers in the region on a regular, frequent basis. Review potential strategies for managing risk and taking contract positions. Execute these strategies through Oil Trading to include futures, basis, and options contracts, contract averaging, and accrual management.
    • Represent the FS Commodity Team at one or more buying groups and one or more corporate accounts (based upon customer HQ location).
    • Support sales of commodity products to regional chain accounts, working with one or more Regional Chain Account Managers (RAM) in the region. Provide market intelligence and contracting services for these accounts.
    • Coordinate annual budgeting activity for the region and subsequent sales strategy by geography, customer, and product category.
    • Manage Cost Rolls and Demand Price Lists so region pricing is representative of market conditions and profit initiatives; requires pricing decisions in accordance with changes in commodity ingredient cost.
    • Maintain communication with Director of Commodity Sales and Margin Management Department on status of sales initiatives & RFPs.
    • Support sales of commodity products to regional chain accounts, working with one or more Regional Account Managers (RAM) in the region. Provide market intelligence and contracting services to these accounts.
    • Communicate with Customer Service, Credit, and Accounts Receivable to ensure efficient handling of the region's customers' needs.

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree required, including 3 years sales experience in the Foodservice Industry, selling directly to distributors in the region.
    • Direct experience managing pricing and margin.
    • Ability to travel 10%.
    • Agricultural Commodity Market knowledge preferred.
    • Experience using CRM tools preferred.
    • Masters degree a bonus.
    • Agricultural Commodity Market knowledge is desired.

    • Planning: Time management; prioritizes competing demands logically; ability to coordinate proactively with stakeholders.

The range provided is for California-based employees as Ventura Foods is required by California State Law to post pay rates.
