Commercial Credit Analyst collects, reviews, and analyzes data to prepare a detailed credit analysis that evaluates the terms and creditworthiness of commercial loan applications. Uses multiple sources of information, including financial statements, collateral appraisals, credit scores, and cash flow analysis, to assign risk ratings to loans and complete an analysis of the applicant's financial status. Being a Commercial Credit Analyst calculates debt-to-income (DTI) ratios to evaluate an applicant's ability to repay the loan. Prepares credit memos in a standardized format that includes key ratios, supporting information, an executive summary, and objective recommendations. Additionally, Commercial Credit Analyst presents credit reports to loan officers and loan committees. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Commercial Credit Analyst work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Commercial Real Estate Portfolio Analyst at our Tysons, Virginia location.  The primary purpose of this position is to provide analysis on the $1.7B in Commercial Real Estate (CRE) loan in accordance with Federal regulations and PenFed Board of Director Policies, procedures, and standards. The incumbent will be responsible for developing reporting, documentation, and written/verbal analysis with the intent of mitigating risk and maximizing value of the portfolio.

    • Develop Commercial Real Estate reporting and analysis for Management, Executive Team, the Board of Directors, and Regulators.
    • Complete a thorough analysis of Commercial Loans and review financial information provided by the Borrower and third parties.
    • Assist Portfolio Management team with data, financial modeling, and analysis to support workout opportunities.
    • Monitor assigned portfolio for early identification of risks.
    • Prepare and present quarterly asset reports for the assigned portfolio.
    • Work with members, internal PenFed staff, and external partners to provide rationale and explanations for commercial lending decisions and ongoing issues related to servicing and accounting.
    • Interpret policies and guidelines for Senior Credit and other PenFed employees requiring guidance. Provides early due diligence feedback to managers on loan opportunities.
    • Analyze and review documentation related to CRE loans with an emphasis on accuracy, legitimacy, and completeness of required documentation.
    • Mentor and coach activities designed to maximize staff performance; this may include training and coaching the junior members of the team.
    • Collaborate with other departments and/or institutions to corroborate or collect information related to commercial lending decisions.
    • Maintain a thorough understanding of regulatory direction related to credit union compliance for lending in the CRE space.
    • Review policies, procedures, and guidelines and makes recommendations for improvement. 

    Qualifications

    Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

    • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is strongly preferred.
    • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a large or medium sized banking or financial service institution, with at least (5) years of experience as an underwriter is required.
    • Specific Experience with Analysis for large CRE loans, including direct and syndicated transactions.
    • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret financial statements, rent rolls, and other reports with ease.
    • Strong financial modeling skills.
    • Tableau/SQL experience preferred.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook) at a level that allows independent work.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Work Environment

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

    Travel

    Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call may be required.
