Coding Compliance Specialist researches and develops the pre-certification insurance policy standards and criteria used by case management and utilization reviewers that will ensure that requested medical services are appropriate and medically necessary. Collaborates with medical professionals to resolve questions about policy development and standards. Being a Coding Compliance Specialist assigns correct ICD, CPT, or other coding assignments for medical procedures that support policy standards in claims systems. Provides expertise and solutions to users regarding the appropriate coding for claims. Additionally, Coding Compliance Specialist has broad knowledge of medical coding systems. May require an associate degree in healthcare administration, a related field, or equivalent. Requires AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC). May alternatively require Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification. Typically reports to a manager. The Coding Compliance Specialist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. This role supports critical areas of Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA), Deceased Member accounts, Trust, Estate, and Power of Attorney review and processing by serving as the lead person handling these requests. This employee is responsible for accurately reviewing all Power of Attorney and Estate and Trust documents, handling related review, decision-making, due diligence, and disbursement of deceased Member accounts. The IRA and Compliance Specialist will offer support to frontline staff, State ECU Members, other financial institutions, law enforcement agencies, and attorneys as required. Their responsibilities further include reviewing, researching, and responding to various legal documentation and IRAs initiated online or in person, and they will maintain State ECU's high level of professionalism when dealing with Members, law enforcement, and other financial institutions. They are also charged with identifying gaps to ensure State ECU complies with federal laws while supporting the compliance team in adhering to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) regulations. In accordance with departmental procedures and Federal Regulations, this employee will take proactive measures to prevent losses for the credit union.
