Coding Compliance Specialist jobs in Florida

Coding Compliance Specialist researches and develops the pre-certification insurance policy standards and criteria used by case management and utilization reviewers that will ensure that requested medical services are appropriate and medically necessary. Collaborates with medical professionals to resolve questions about policy development and standards. Being a Coding Compliance Specialist assigns correct ICD, CPT, or other coding assignments for medical procedures that support policy standards in claims systems. Provides expertise and solutions to users regarding the appropriate coding for claims. Additionally, Coding Compliance Specialist has broad knowledge of medical coding systems. May require an associate degree in healthcare administration, a related field, or equivalent. Requires AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC). May alternatively require Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification. Typically reports to a manager. The Coding Compliance Specialist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.      The Dermatology Coding and Billing Specialist is responsible for accurately coding dermatology procedures and services, submitting insurance claims, and managing the billing process for a dermatology practice or healthcare facility. They ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and maximize revenue by optimizing reimbursement.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Medical Coding:
      • Assign appropriate CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) and ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases) codes       to dermatology services, procedures, and diagnoses.
      • Stay up-to-date with coding changes and guidelines related to dermatology.
    2. Billing:
      • Prepare and submit insurance claims accurately and in a timely manner.
      • Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility for dermatology services.
      • Follow up on unpaid claims and denials, resubmitting claims if necessary.
      • Review and address coding-related denials and discrepancies.
    3. Compliance:
      • Ensure compliance with federal and state healthcare regulations, including HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and       Accountability Act).
      • Stay informed about changes in billing and coding regulations specific to dermatology.
    4. Documentation:
      • Collaborate with healthcare providers to improve documentation accuracy for coding purposes.
      • Maintain organized records of coding and billing transactions.
    5. Patient Inquiries:
      • Respond to patient inquiries related to billing, insurance, and claims.
      • Assist patients in understanding their bills and insurance coverage.
    6. Revenue Optimization:
      • Identify opportunities to optimize revenue through accurate coding and billing practices.
      • Assist in developing strategies to increase reimbursement rates and reduce claim denials.
    7. Training and Education:
      • Keep staff and providers updated on coding and billing changes and best practices.
      • Conduct training sessions as needed to improve coding accuracy.
    8. Software and Technology:
      • Utilize medical billing and coding software effectively.
      • Stay current with software updates and enhancements.

    Qualifications:

    • A high school diploma or equivalent (some employers may require a degree or certification in medical coding or billing).
    • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Dermatology Coder (CDC) certification is highly desirable.
    • Strong knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding systems.
    • Familiarity with medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
    • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
    • Knowledge of healthcare regulations, especially those related to dermatology.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.

    A Dermatology Coding and Billing Specialist is a critical member of the healthcare revenue cycle management team, ensuring accurate reimbursement and financial stability for dermatology practices while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations.
