Clinical Research Director directs and oversees the clinical research function for a healthcare organization. Job Summary: Directs the nursing operations in the surgery center.
Reporting Relationship: Reports to the (Administrator).
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
1. Evaluates nursing activities to ensure patient care, staff relations, and efficiency of service.
2. Coordinates patient care with business office, pre-op, Operating room, SPD, Anesthesia, and PACU.
3. Supervises activities to ensure appropriate patient care and monitors efficiency of service in the operating room, Pre-op, and PACU. Observe and assist with operating room turnovers along with planning and ensuring staff breaks and lunches.
4. Observes nursing care and visits patients to ensure that nursing care is carried out as directed and treatment is administered in accordance with physicians’ instructions. Staff and provider Clinical Educator. Quarterly Committee to be maintained.
5. Coordinates with physicians, medical staff, and administrator to ensure that effective Communication is maintained. Maintain Peer Review
6. Coordinates with Materials Manager for equipment, special equipment, and supplies for upcoming surgical cases, and resolves any problems. Including running point on case cost analysis sheets with vendor planning and costs.
7. Coordinates orientation of new employees. All competencies to be maintained. 30,60,90, 120 evaluations to be completed in timely manner. New employee scavenger hunt.
8. Investigates and resolves complaints. Refers unusual problems to the Administrator. Incident reports to be entered on paper to Administrator within 24 hours and entered in Midas within 72 hours.
9. Interacts appropriately and effectively with all patients/others regardless of age or ethnic background. Ensuring PAT is complete on all patients within 1 week of being on the surgical schedule. All patients needing Anesthesia evaluation seen in person if deemed necessary including, but not limited to shoulder arthroscopies for Dr. J. Peden.
10. Follows equipment safety guidelines. Ensure with OR Manager and Materials Manager all equipment check ins and PMs completed.
11. Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and participates in emergency preparedness drills. Act as IC Nurse and/or delegate accordingly. Acquire certification.
12. Ensures that Standard Universal Precautions, the National Patient Safety Goals, and principles of aseptic and sterile technique are used appropriately. Assist with assistant and OR staff training along with OR Manager.
13. Implements safe practices and provides knowledgeable guidance and evaluation of the environment of care management, including life safety (fire prevention), security, hazardous materials and waste management, emergency preparedness, infection control, the safe use of medical equipment, and utilities. Maintain all drills and in-services.
14. Ensures meaningful differences are implemented as outlined in the EDGE (Every Day Giving Excellence) Program. Maintain communication with staff including, but not limited to Daily Huddles and Monthly in-service. Maintain attendance and document to ensure standard.
15. Participates in review and revision of the policies and procedures at the Surgery Center. Policies to be maintained with Pre-op/PACU Coordinator, OR Manager, and Administrator.
16. Directs the hiring, selection, performance reviews, and training of medical personnel. Maintain all employee files, I9s, and Employee Health Files.
17. Calls on physicians to solicit their participation in the surgery center.
18. Orders or directs ordering of supplies including drugs, solutions, and equipment, and maintains records on narcotics. Maintain DEA and ensure Pre-op/PACU Coordinator and OR Manager obtains as back up along with all pharmaceutical ordering and stock.
Qualifications: Graduate of an approved school of nursing. Currently licensed in the state. CPR certification is required, advanced life support certification required. One-year experience required in intra-operative setting. Demonstrates clinical competency, leadership, and teaching capabilities. Physically and emotionally capable of performing responsibilities of position.
