About the role: The Research Associate role is a full time salaried (non-exempt) position with benefits. The primary responsibility of this position is to assist with Agaricus bisporus (button mushroom) breeding and gene editing experiments. Ideal candidates for this position will have some experience working in a laboratory environment, strong molecular biology skills, and BS in Molecular Biology or related field.

REPORTS TO: Research Scientist
WORK SCHEDULE: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm Monday - Friday
TRAVEL TIME %: None
POSITION TYPE: Full Time
FLSA STATUS: Salary Non-Exempt
COMPENSATION: The following information is provided in honesty as a general description of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate is dependent upon related factors such as, skills and experience, education, work location, internal pay equity, etc.
Salary Range estimate: $24-28/hourly depending on skillset and experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assisting at all levels of mushroom breeding
- Assisting at all levels of gene editing experiments
- Prepare samples, transfer cultures, run PCR analysis, make solutions
- Keep organized lab books, collect and summarize data
- Assist with experimental design and decision making
- Assist with other research, and projects as needed.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES/EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- BS in a Molecular Biology, microbiology or related field
- 0-1 year of laboratory experience
- Knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques (PCR, electrophoresis…)
- Experience with sterile technique
Desired:
- 1-3 years of laboratory experience
- Knowledge of advanced molecular biology techniques
- Knowledge of the fungal life-cycle and genetics
- Experience with gene editing techniques
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
- Chemical resistant gloves
- Chemical resistant goggles
- Other specialized equipment/PPE as needed
TOOLS, APPLICATIONS & EQUIPMENT USED:
- Microsoft Windows applications, laminar flow hood, PCR machines, and other equipment related to molecular biology and microbiology
