Clinical Pharmacist directs and develops research of existing and new prescription drugs and conducts utilization reviews to develop guidelines for usage, prior authorization, and updates to formulary. Monitors patient data on drug therapies outcomes, reactions, and errors. Being a Clinical Pharmacist provides education and outreach to medical staff on prescribing guidelines, alternative drug therapies, and risk mitigation. Administers a prior authorization program. Additionally, Clinical Pharmacist requires a doctorate degree in pharmacy (Pharm.D.). Typically reports to a manager or supervisor. Requires Registered Pharmacist (RPh). Position Summary
Clinical Generalist Pharmacists are responsible for the safe and accurate dispensing of pharmaceuticals, in accordance with departmental and institutional policies, applicable laws, regulations and standards. They must ensure appropriateness of prescribed therapy for all patient populations including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. Clinical Generalist Pharmacists must also communicate effectively with the department, with other health care professionals and patients. They must also engage in clinical and educational activities in the institution.
Primary Position Responsibilities

Ensures accurate and proficient distribution of medications in accordance with department policies in addition to state, and federal regulations.

Ensures accurate and proficient preparation of parenteral medications in accordance with department policies in addition to state, and federal regulations.

Demonstrates clinical proficiency.

Provides administrative support for pharmacy management.
5.
Integrates with health care providers on assigned unit.
6.
Participates in educational activities throughout the organization.

Completion of PGY1 residency or 3 years hospital with significant clinical experience.

PGY2 residency or 5 years hospital with significant clinical experience.
License, Registry or Certification:

New Jersey Pharmacist License.

Specialty pharmacy certification (e.g. BCPS, CGP).
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
Required:
Pharmacy skills serving patients of diverse age and disease states; working knowledge of Automated Dispensing Cabinets (e.g. PYXIS® or Omnicell®); Competence in required computer programs (clinical system, ADC, parenteral documentation), MS Office Proficient; Teaching/precepting experience.
