Clinical Nurse Specialist serves as a clinical expert providing teaching, mentoring, consulting, research, and systems improvement in a specific practice area or with a specific patient population. Coordinates and guides clinical activities/projects of nurses within a practice area. Being a Clinical Nurse Specialist collaborates with members of the health care team to design and implement safe, cost-effective, and evidence-based care strategies. May require a master's degree in nursing. Additionally, Clinical Nurse Specialist requires Registered Nurse (RN) License. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Clinical Nurse Specialist manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Clinical Nurse Specialist typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     The NICU Nurse Manager will be providing leadership and management to a 20 bed, Level III Intensive Care Nursery. The average census is anywhere from 7-12 patients a day featuring on-site, 24/7 Neonatologists, Specialized Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, Lactation Support, Skin-to Skin Care, Medical Social Work Coverage, Neonatal Case Management & Discharge planning, and cares for all sick and premature babies as small as 23 weeks gestations. This NICU supports Labor and Delivery by responding to all high-risk deliveries. As NICU Nurse Manager, this nursing leader will be joining a highly advanced team that performs life saving measures daily. Responsibilities include management of RT Staff, staff assessments, daily operations, and will collaborate with the Director of Maternal Child Women’s Health and other department leaders to maintain the highest level of patient care.

    To maximize success in this role, the NICU Nurse Manager will possess previous NICU nursing leadership experience, a strong background in Process Improvement and/or Quality Improvement, and display the ability to effectively train and communicate with staff. A Neonatal ICU Nurse Manager with their California Nursing License and MSN will make for quick interviews!
