The Impact You’ll Make in this Role As a Clinical and Economic Research Medical Director, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by: Serve as the clinical leader for our Clinical and Economic Research team who build and enhance global leading health care payment, quality, and safety methodologies used extensively by Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payers and over 2000 health systems in the United States and by more than a dozen countries. Serve as a member of the C&ER Senior Team. Collaborates with C&ER leadership team to set long-term strategic direction and operating plans for a significantly complex market with clinical patient classification solutions to shape health care financing and delivery. This includes Domestic and International population health, quality of care, inpatient payment, outpatient payment, episodic care, and severity of illness. Interprets industry trends, customer requirements, and clinical/performance objectives to define guidelines/methods in health care measurement and management, particularly in the areas of payment, quality, equity and efficiency of care and population health. Decisions are independently executed and limited by the objectives/guidelines of the business. Initiates and approves projects to continuously improve efficiency and competitiveness. Serves as full research participant in clinical logic content design, development, and application of Clinical &Economic Research methodologies. This also includes developing approaches to use methodologies with big data as input to AI tools or predictive applications. Serves as clinical ambassador and knowledge leader to governments, payers, providers, and partners in the US and abroad. Shares vision and demonstrates company values. Promotes our core philosophy around outcomes and cost. Represents 3M HIS and the clinical definitions underlying our methodologies and measures in blogs, publications, presentations, poster sessions, as well as responses to articles. Supports the organization in communicating the economic benefits and value of methodologies from a clinical perspective with current and prospective clients. Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications: Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States. Board Certified Medical Doctor (MD or DO) Five (5 ) years of experience with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, State Medicaid, Private Payers or comparable experience. In addition to the above requirements, the following are also required: Five (5 ) years of experience with healthcare payment and quality outcomes Five (5 ) years of experience managing/directing multi-disciplinary teams. Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include: Five (5 ) years of professional post-residency experience Five (5 ) years of experience in Healthcare Services Research, Policy, Government Health, Payer, Healthcare Consulting, or Healthcare Software/Services Company or similar experience. Bachelor's degree or higher in Economics or comparable form an accredited institution Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), Masters in Biostatistics/Epidemiology, Master’s in Public Health/Policy or comparable degree from an accredited institution Strategic Planning/Product Management/Product Development in Healthcare business experience. Creates solutions for highly complex and multi-faceted problems, which require ingenuity, creativity, innovation, and strong analytical skills. Management responsibility of clinicians and related analysts which usually encompasses several areas including: payment and clinical transformation, measuring and managing populations, and clinical quality, and the relationship between public and proprietary measures. Determines priorities, timetables, and assigns resources/tasks. Accountable for the activities and results of assigned functional area. Resolves personnel conflicts. Typically, provides indirect supervision to experienced managers which include objective setting, performance management, and motivating, as well as training and coaching. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Congenial, diplomatic, patient, and able to interact well with internal and external customers. Demonstrated leader with program management skills, a bias toward action with a focus on continuous improvement. Practical knowledge of managed healthcare systems, medical quality assurance and quality improvement. Authored healthcare related peer reviewed journal articles and have interest in continuing to periodically publish. Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based reviews or systematic reviews and interest in intersection between coded medical information and payment, quality and safety methodologies. Prior experience in presenting healthcare related topics at national conferences and interest in representing the organization at conferences and in industry publications. Knowledge of computer programs and corporate systems relevant to the assigned area of responsibility is normally required. Generally, requires the ability to communicate in written and spoken English.
