Director of Facilities Operations – Capital Projects and Planning
Reports to: Assistant Vice President of Facilities Operations (AVP)
Location: Facility Operations Office
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
The Director of Facilities Operations – Capital Projects and Planning will assist the AVP with major projects, research, and analysis relating to construction, physical planning and execution to support projects and initiatives on behalf of the AVP of Facilities Operations. This full-time position provides project management support to various university initiatives at the request of the Assistant Vice President of Facilities Operations.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Project manage new construction on campus from concept to execution. Act as liaison between university stakeholders, general contractor and subs.
2. Project manage rebuilds in existing campus buildings from start to finish.
3. Assist with creating long and short term Campus plans, setting targets and adhering to deadlines.
4. Analyze project status and, when necessary, revise the scope, schedule, or budget to ensure that project requirements can be met.
5. Assist with coordination and communication with Advancement, the campus community, and the local community as appropriate.
6. Manage communication with senior leadership on various matters relating to projects status and issues, construction and physical planning and plan execution.
7. Measure, select and order all new furniture requests on campus for construction projects and existing spaces.
8. Complete all work order requests related to furniture, space planning, office moves, art and other interior needs from staff and faculty.
9. Select finishes for all interior and exterior campus buildings such as roofing, siding, paint.
10. Coordinate all orders and deliveries of project equipment and furniture.
11. Work with City inspector to keep all projects up to code.
12. Create presentations for various university groups such as Development and Board of Trustees.
13. Deliver quarterly presentations on Facilities projects at All Staff and Senior Staff meetings.
14. Manage the accounting of all projects by tracking all quotes and invoices and keeping costs in line with budget.
15. Act as the Facilities liaison for Sustainability.
16. Perform duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Facilities Operations.
SKILLS, CREDENTIALS, EXPERIENCE:
1. Ability to manage projects from start to finish
2. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills including effective interpersonal skills.
3. Have a good sense of aesthetics and design.
4. Ability to work with limited direction.
5. Proficient in computer skills including MS Outlook and Office 365.
6. Ability to read building plans.
7. Effective collaboration, decision making, delegation and issue resolution.
8. Demonstrates effective time management and strategic thinking.
9. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
10. Ability to specify commercial and residential furniture; commercial carpeting; plumbing, electrical, data; commercial and residential window treatments; building materials.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
1. Bachelor’s degree in construction, business, engineering, or a related field
2. Background in construction project management preferred.
3. Experience with Auto CAD preferred.
