Job Summary:

The purpose of the RN Specialist position is to oversee and facilitate various aspects of nursing staff recruitment, orientation, training, and ongoing competency monitoring within the organization. The RN Specialist provides direct supervision to nursing staff, overseeing their day-to-day activities and providing guidance and support as needed at the discretion of the Nurse Manager. This role ensures that nursing staff are well-equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources to provide high-quality patient care while adhering to regulatory standards and organizational policies. Additionally, the RN Specialist supports employee health functions and promotes a culture of continuous learning and professional development among nursing staff. Overall, the purpose of this position is to optimize the effectiveness and efficiency of nursing operations while maintaining a focus on patient safety and quality care.  This position is hourly exempt. 

Main Responsibilities:

1. Interview Process for Nursing:
   • Conduct interviews for nursing staff positions, assessing candidate qualifications and fit for the organization.
2. Orientation:
   • Develop and organize orientation schedules for new nursing hires, ensuring comprehensive coverage of necessary topics and activities.
   • Coordinate with relevant departments and personnel to facilitate a smooth onboarding process for new employees.
3. New Hire Lab Draws/Orders:
   • Work under the direction of the designated supervisor to facilitate new hire lab draws and orders as part of the onboarding process.
4. Competency Monitoring:
   • Monitor and assess the competency of nursing staff through regular evaluations and observations.
   • Identify areas for improvement and provide training or support as needed to ensure competence in job duties.
5. Training Monitoring:
   • Utilize the Relias training platform to track and monitor staff completion of required training modules and certifications.
   • Generate reports and provide feedback to ensure compliance with organizational training requirements.
6. Quarterly Staff Nurse Training:
   • Plan and facilitate quarterly training sessions for staff nurses, covering relevant topics to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
   • Collaborate with subject matter experts and other stakeholders to develop engaging and informative training sessions.
7. Assisting with CPR Classes:
   • Assist in coordinating and facilitating CPR classes for nursing staff as needed.
   • Ensure that staff members maintain current CPR certifications and are adequately trained in life-saving techniques.
8. Fit Testing:
   • Coordinate and conduct fit testing for nursing staff as required by regulatory standards and organizational policies.
   • Ensure that staff members have properly fitted respiratory protection equipment to maintain a safe work environment.
9. Support Employee Health Functions:
   • Provide support to employee health functions as needed, assisting with health screenings, vaccinations, and other occupational health services.
   • Collaborate with Employee Health Department to promote employee wellness and compliance with health-related policies and procedures.

Education and Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Nursing or related field.
  
• Prior supervisory and training experience strongly preferred.
• A current, unrestricted NYS Registered Nurse License required
• CPR certification required (can be provided)
• 3-5 Years of experience working in license
• The ability to work flexible hours -- some evenings are required
• The ability to communicate fluently in both Spanish and English is preferred

Physical Requirements: 

• Must be able to hear and communicate with clients and staff via phone, web media, and in person.
• Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs
• Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
• Must be able to kneel, crawl, or bend into awkward spaces
• OSHA Level 1
