Being a Clinical Educator conducts research to stay current with health care regulations and best practices. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Clinical Educator requires certification as an instructor for both ACLS and BLS. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Labor and Delivery Clinical Nurse Educator will report directly to the Director of Education. Supported by other educators and nurse managers and directors working on educational efforts for their staff as well, this person will help grow acute care staff throughout the facility to ensure safe and quality care is provided by all.
The Labor and Delivery Clinical Nurse Educator will be in charge of conducting initial and continuing education learning needs assessments of individual nurses and groups of nurses within the Labor and Delivery Unit. This involves keeping staff up to date with current best practices and making sure they are following guidelines set by the hospital. In addition, the position requires developing educational programs for nurses all along the spectrum of their careers that are creative and align with the hospital’s guidelines, needs, and budget. The Labor and Delivery Clinical Nurse Educator will also need to evaluate their educational programs upon completion to make sure the purpose and objectives are achieved.
