Clinical Educator is responsible for developing and delivering training programs for clinical health workers. Identifies professional development needs, facilitates training, and conducts in-service sessions. Being a Clinical Educator conducts research to stay current with health care regulations and best practices. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Clinical Educator requires certification as an instructor for both ACLS and BLS. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Clinical Educator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Outreach Educator

  • Summary: Under direct supervision, plans, implements and evaluates a variety of sexual health education programs; collaborates with a variety of division staff and community health agencies and organizations; to support and provide health education, risk reduction and outreach services to diverse populations.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide divisional support across all sexual health programming.
    • Assist the Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) with direct programming and client follow up.
    • Provide sexual health testing and sexual health clinic coverage.
    • Plan, implement and evaluate outreach programming to targeted populations.
    • Provide educational instruction to clients pertaining to health, social and educational issues.
    • Assess health, social and education needs, and to formulate plans to meet those needs.
    • Work with a variety of community groups to promote healthy behaviors in Jackson County.
    • Establish and further develop cooperative working relationships with community members, professionals, individuals, coalitions and various community health agencies and organizations.
    • Collaborate with local health committees regarding the development of community public health programs.
    • Conduct training programs and activities designed to improve the health of the community.
    • Participate in the dissemination of sexual health education materials; assists in evaluating the effectiveness of various sexual health education methods and techniques; carries out studies and surveys to develop new or improve existing sexual health education programming.
    • Responsible for writing reports and designing written materials with assistance and input from others.
    • Identify process deficiencies and recommend means for improvement.
    • Incorporate ethical standards of practice into all interactions, including the use of data and information.
    • Adhere to HIPAA privacy regulations and OSHA safety standards pertaining to exposure to toxic substances or other hazards.
    • Interact effectively and professionally with all persons regardless of age, cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial or ethnic background, sexual orientation, lifestyle and physical ability. And respect the cultural, language and religious practices of others.
    • Assume responsibility for own professional growth and development by pursuing continuing education, participating in professional committees and work groups and contributing to a work environment where continual improvements in practice are pursued.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in public health education, community health education or in a social service related area. Preferred but not required, one-year experience providing disease intervention services, contact tracing, sexual health or HIV Services.
    • Requires competency in computer skills. Experience in data entry, word processing, and basic spreadsheet use is preferred.
    • Competency maneuvering internet and social media platforms preferred
    • Requires travel by automobile on a regular basis. Valid driver’s license, proof of minimum insurance and vehicle required.
    • Must be able to move or carry up to 25 lbs.

    Skills and Characteristics:

    • Ability to use correct grammar along with good written communication skills. Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to speak in public and develop informative data which educates general public on environmental health issues. Meeting facilitation skills and ability to plan and coordinate exercises.
    • Aptitude for communicating in a manner as to influence behavior and provide educational instruction to others pertaining to health, social and educational issues.
    • Possess strong organization skills and close attention to detail. Must be able to manage multiple programs and establish priorities.
    • Knowledge of the psychological and sociological concepts governing individual and group behavior.
    • Demonstrated ability to present and conduct self professionally; a commitment to confidentiality; and a willingness to work as part of a team. Sound judgment, independent decision making, problem-solving and critical thinking skills are also a must.
    • Flexibility, strong interpersonal skills establish and further develop cooperative working relationships with community, governmental, subcontract agencies and other groups and work well with all levels of internal staff and external partners

    Work Environment:

    • Most work performed in climate-controlled, accessible office space, plus significant time spent at off-site locations.
    • Frequent interruptions and distractions with multiple concurrent tasks.
    • Position may require evening or weekend work for special program events.

    Specialized Training Requirements (post-hire):

    • Incident Command IS 100 and IS 700, at a minimum
    • Illinois Mandated Reporter
    • Training certification as needed
    • Any required under employment law
