Description
The Director of Staff Development is responsible for the development and implementation of on-going educational programs for all nursing staff in accordance with Federal, State and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the facility.
The Infection Preventionist is responsible for the Infection Prevention and Control Program, and organizes inservices according to Infection Control trends and Federal/CDC/State requirements. S/He is responsible for the implementation of the Infection Control program per policies and procedures including collecting, analyzing infection data and trends, ensuring education, training, documentation and provision of infection control measures.
Qualifications
- Supervises direct nursing care.
- Administers direct care as needed.
- Makes routine rounds to assure proper care and a safe, clean resident environment.
- Assures accuracy and completeness of medical records.
- Supervises nursing personnel on all shifts. Participates in staffing, scheduling, counseling, orientation, and evaluation of nursing staff.
- Plans and guides the professional development of the nursing staff, monitor and evaluate the staff and make recommendations for training. Includes development of yearly training/in-service schedule for nursing staff.
- Ensure annual competency evaluations and performance evaluations are completed in a timely manner.
- Maintains appropriate training records and program materials as required by federal and state regulations.
- Monitors outcome of employee training sessions with regard to skills taught and session evaluations.
- Responsible for following and investigating facility infections, the surveillance of facility infections, antibiotic surveillance and managing of isolation practices in the facility.
- Responsible for tracking and trending infections of staff, volunteers and visitors.
- Acts as liaison to appropriate Local, State and Federal Authorities with suspected outbreak or outbreaks.
- Will perform NHSN reporting.
- Responsible for education related to Infection Control Program.
- Participates in QAPI for Infection Preventionist role.
- Responds to emergency calls as necessary.
- Functions in the capacity of Director of Nursing in his/her absence.
- Assures effective communication with other shifts and departments as it relates to resident care.
- Participates in afterhours call schedule for the nursing management team.
- Assists Director of Nursing in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
- Performs specific work duties and responsibilities assigned by Director of Nursing.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing education.
- Possess a current, unencumbered RN license recognized by the State of Oregon.
- Current BLS CPR certification preferred.
- Educational requirements for Infection Preventionist per CMS requirements.
- Experienced in the care of the geriatric resident as evidenced by previous work experience.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively to staff, residents, families, etc.
