Applied Technologies Technician (Part-Time)

  • Job Summary
    Performs basic maintenance and repairs to machine shop equipment, prepares student assignments, helps set up demonstrations, and assists instructors in an applied technology lab or classroom.
     
    Essential Duties
    1. Operates a variety of lab equipment, hardware, software and other technologies.
    2. Monitors and maintains shop equipment relative to the applied technology lab environment. 
    3. Operates band saws, presses, welders, lathes, mills, and any other equipment as necessary.
    4. Performs shop repairs or improvements as requested or needed.
    5. Practices shop safety, organizes, cleans, and disinfects surfaces.
    6. Assists instructor to set up demonstrations.
    7. Operates Hyster forklift.
    8. Reviews course-specific instructional materials as provided by students and instructors. 
    9. Provides routine clerical support related to shop maintenance and repair; ordering supplies/equipment; 
     
    Additional Duties
    1. Handles metal recycling and other shop errands.
    2. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
    Minimum Qualifications
    • High school diploma or GED
    • One (1) year of college level coursework in welding, mechatronics, engineering, or machine tool technology OR industry recognized certificates
    • One (1) year work experience in welding, mechatronics, engineering, or machine tool technology
    Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

    • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and safety
    • Experience and/or education in welding, mechatronics, engineering, or machine tool technology
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    Knowledge of: 
    • Advanced manufacturing industry(ies) and working in a shop environment. 
    • Machining, welding, engineering, or mechatronics.
    • Effective communication, learning and tutoring strategies.
     
     
    Ability to:
    • Fix, repair or calibrate machinery related to the field. 
    • Operate a variety of shop equipment, tools and technologies.
    • Solve problems, complete projects, show initiative, and work well with others.
    • Interact with students or staff individually and/or in small groups.
    • Reinforce course curriculum and learning objectives.
    • Follow program and college policies and procedures.
    • Communicate effectively, both orally, writing, and during hands on demonstrations.
    • Create a safe environment for students. 

    Working Conditions
    Work is typically performed primarily in Applied Technology classrooms and labs with hazards and demands typical to a manufacturing industry.
